I'm not sure if this is the right place to post it. If it's not, mods please move it to where it should be.

I have several questions about renting DVC points. We are planning a trip for 2010 for 8 days. I was thinking about staying at a DVC resort. I was looking at a place that rented points, to get an idea of how much it would be. I would actually rent the points from a DIS member b/c I would rather do it that way. It listed BLT MK view for 8 days at 377 points for a 2 bedroom. Is that per night or would it really only be 377 points for 8 days? If it's for the 8 days, it would be way cheaper to rent points than to do it through Disney. Also, if those prices are right, we could afford to rent a 2 bedroom vills and let my DH's brother's family stay with us.

When you rent points, how does payment work? Can you just use paypal? Would the reservation be in my name or the DVC owner that we rented from?

If you rent points, how do you add park tickets and dining plan to it? Does the person that you rented the points from have to do it or do you do it seperate.

We were planning on doing the DlxDDP. I'm assuming that I would still be able to make my own ADR's.

Thanks in advance for any and all help. I'm trying to decide if renting DVC would be better than doing the trip through Disney.

When you rent points as a non-DVC member, you are basically using the DVC member as your de facto travel agent. They make the reservation, you have to pay them using whatever terms you work out between you two. Your names will be in the reservation as the guests, but the reservation will be held by the DVC member. Any changes to the reservation, or add-ons, will have to be made by the DVC member on your behalf.

And yes, renting points is almost always a cheaper way to stay at a DVC resort than booking through Disney as a cash paying customer.

ADR's can be made by anyone.

Park tickets are not tied to the Dining Plans for DVC point reservations. You can purchase your park tickets anywhere you wish.

The DVC owner would need to have Member Services link you rchoice of Dining Plans into the reservatoin for you, and you will pay for the Dining Plan upon check-in , there is no way to "pre-pay" the DDPs in advance with DVC. DVC stays are not eligible for specia promos, like free dining...members pay the regular price all the time.

Yes 377 would be the total points for the stay. To look at the actual point charts for 2009 and 2010 (there were some changes for 2010) click on the link at the top of this page, below the blue heron in the timeshare store banner.

One thing to keep in mind is each member has their own cancellation policy. Many require it to be a final transaction or only allow a refund if the reservation can be re-rented.

Also keep in mind that BLT is garnering a higher price than most DVC resorts due to it's being the newest one and on the monorail. And you will probably have to find someone who owns there for the 11 month priority.

I looked up the points for a 2 bedroom, MK view at BLT. You can get 7 nights for 377 points during choice season in 2010.
