I want to rent some points from DVC owners, but am very wary since I have never done this before.

- If a reservation is made by a DVC owners in my name, can I call DVC to confirm the reservation?
- Can a DVC owner make a reservation in some elses name, and then cancel the reservation at a later time and have all the points go back into their active account?

Does a standard rental transaction normally go like this:
1) A DVC owner and renter agree to a price per point
2) The DVC owner checks on availability for the renter
3) Once the renter verifies an available timeframe the DVC owner makes the reservation in the renters name and provides the confirmation number.
4) The DVC owner will mail the reservation confirmation (in the renters name) to the renter.
5) Once the confirmation is received the renter would then pay the DVC member by whatever terms were agreed to.
6) The DVC owner could cancel the reservation after a certain timeframe if the renter has not paid and have all the points place by into their active account.

Thanks!

The steps you list look pretty normal for a rental transaction; every owner probably has his "preferred" terms and conditions.

The easiest way for you to confirm your reservation is to have the member call DVC, and then hook you in on a 3 way call so that you can get personal confirmation. Non-members are not supposed to call DVC Member Services directly.

Yes, if the member cancels, he gets the points back, but depending upon when he cancels and when the trip was scheduled, the usage of those points can be subject to restrictions. This is why many owners make their rental transactions non-refundable after a certain date.
