Questions about military salute tickets

I've searched this forum and can't seem to come up with the answer to these questions, so hopefully someone can help me out.

I have a friend whose husband is active duty and they are moving to San Diego. I know they qualify for the military salute tickets, which from what I'm reading are *not* currently for sale. And I know that the 2020 military salute tickets have been extended to expire in Dec 2021.

Can they only buy 6 total Disneyland Military tickets per year (not 6 through her and 6 through her husband)? And if they buy tickets in 2020, but they don't expire until 2021, can they buy 6 in 2020 and 6 in 2021 (assuming that the military salute ticket program is still offered)? And do they have to have the person's name on the ticket when they are purchased? She has family wanting to come out and go to Disneyland together, and she's trying to figure out how many tickets she can get and when.

Also, do former military veterans who were honorably discharged (with a DD214), but didn't retire, now qualify for Military Salute Tickets? I'm reading conflicting information.

Thanks!

Yes, her husband or herself can ONLY buy 6 per year. it cannot be combined for a total of 12 tix. as for can one of them buy another for 2021--not sure about that, ITT bases will probably know more next year. the military salute tix do need to have the attendees names on them.
she could also buy the slightly discounted military tix (not the special salute ones) for other family/friends if exceeding the 6 tix limit.

Also, your Q about vets w/honorable discharge..unfortunately, no discount for them. the vet must be retired or honorable discharged w/100% service related disability (yikes!)

reservists qualify for the military salute..

Nope. You need a CAC card to be eligible or other eligible colored paper cards (I don't have them all memorized). The green paper cards will not allow you to purchase them. This policy is not very good because some people retain their CAC cards when they leave active duty and go straight into the reserves. Also, non-active reservists are eligible to be issued CAC cards but technically aren't eligible for the offer. Is this confusing??? ABSOLUTELY!!

So the way to explain qualification when I worked at a store with the same rules was if you still received a paycheck from the Military, than you qualify, as a general rule.

The longer version is 20 years retired, still active, active reserves, and anyone who is either married to or a child of said person. As stated previously, you have a CAC card, an active reserves card (Green) or a dependents ID (which is like beige colored), or a retired ID (blue), or reserves retired (Red) Otherwise, not eligible.

So generally, is it 6 tickets per calendar year?
Yup, thats how it usually works, but the promotion usually also has a start and end date in the same year. I am not sure how it will work with 2020 being extended into 2021.

One more clarification. There is different eligibility for military discounted tickets and Military Salute Tickets. For example: I have a green card (non-drilling reservist). I CAN get a discounted ticket but I CANNOT purchase a Military Salute Ticket. This is probably why you are getting conflicting information.

Perhaps this will help clarify. This was sent to me from Shades of Green when I asked to purchase tickets this year.
Tricky spot with what you posted. The page on accepted ID is correct across both coasts.... However, on the Disneyland side, not everything "computes" across the same (like we don't have Shades of Green, we can purchase at the gates, and the prices are different). Just want to make sure it's clear so someone isn't expecting the same prices/experience/options.

Whoops. That's my bad and I totally agree. I only meant to post the pages with the bits about the IDs to qualify. I will correct that issue by reattaching correctly here and removing the other. Thanks for pointing that out.

So generally, is it 6 tickets per calendar year?
Essentially, yes. It's a total of 6 Salute tickets per service member (so, not 6 for the service member and 6 for the non-service-member spouse equaling 12 tickets) per promotion year. There are some exceptions, mainly for immediate families of more than 6 people.

Since it's counted per promotion year, there's a fair assumption that the 2020 tickets won't count "against" the 2021 tickets, since they are different promotional years.

Militarydisneytips .com has lots of military specific q&a with various scenarios, and I’ve reached out to the site owner when I had questions in the past I couldn’t find answers to.

Thank you for all the great info! My friend really appreciates the help.

One more question: if you buy a military salute ticket and put it in a person's name (let's say Joe Smith) and Joe ends up not being able to make the trip, can some one else use that ticket? Obviously before any days are used and before going to the gate, I know only 1 person per ticket. But does the person who ends up using that ticket *have to be* the person whose name was originally on that ticket?

It's so hard to predict with COVID and world situation right now, so buying tickets in family members' names, knowing that plans/rules can change, is a little worrisome. But if they knew that someone could use it, that would be a different scenario. Once again, thanks!

The qualifying service member (or identified spouse) has to be there for the first entry. Apart from that, you could theoretically change the "owner" of the ticket (Cousin Mike instead of Cousin Sally) before the first use. In my experience, tickets bought through our MWR will say Service Member's Party, but if the service member buys them at the gates, the cast member will print them with the correct names. But really, until that first scan (and picture attached to it), anyone in the group could use it.
