Questions about joining DVC

My husband and I are frequent visitors to WDW (at least a few times every year for the past 7 years) and have never joined DVC. We are thinking that we should purchase an interest in one (we always go and plan on going in the future) but are not sure if we should buy directly from the DVC or look at a resale from a current member. Does anyone have any experience with this positive or negative (buying a resale, that is)? Also, are there any sites that list these resales? Also, when buying add-on points, do you buy these directly from DVC (if you purchased a resale)?:pinkbounc

Once you purchase DVC won't treat any member differently- whether resale or direct.

Two commonly used brokers are The Timeshare Store (who sponsors this site- link also at the top of the page) and A Timeshare Broker.

Add-ons may be done either directly or by resale (but there are not many smaller contracts available thru resale).

Enjoy!

The thing that I heard over and over again, prior to buying into DVC, was to buy where you plan to stay most often. I had chosen OKW as my preference. In taking the tour at Disney, I found out that OKW wasn't available directly from Disney.

I was sort of led to believe that there was little to no chance to get a resale. It was implied that Disney always exercised their right to buy back resales. I think it is very rare that they do this.

I held off making a decision and I'm glad that I did. I purchased an OKW resale and it went quite smoothly. I really wanted my points to be at OKW and just kept looking until I found exactly what I wanted. Since that time I've done an add-on through Disney at VWL. I always wanted points there, just not my main contract.
