First timers going for 6 days over Halloween.
My children will be 12 & 10

What times will US/IOA be closing on nights they have their Halloween events?
Also, do you think these will be too scary for my kids,if so what are our alternatives?
We have always been at Disney for Halloween and know we could drive up and do MNSSHP or Downtown Disney but wanted a change of pace.

Does City Walk offer trick or treating? Does Sea World offer anything?
We plan on arriving 10/30 and staying 6 days.

We want to do IOA/US, Sea World and the new waterpark.

Thanks for your help

Lisa -

Universal usually closes at 5pm on HHN nights depending on which park HHN is being staged in. Last year, IOA closed at 7pm most nights and the Studios closed at 5pm. HHN is NOT kid friendly and I'm not sure if your kids would like it...unless they don't get scared very easily.

Other than MNSSHP, the other kid friendly Halloween event is at Sea World. I know they do costumes and trick-or-treating but that's about all I know..having never been there. I'm sure someone else on the boards will offere their opinion of SW's party.

Thanks.

Is the Horror night at both IOA and US or one or the other?
Do you know if the resorts do any type of trick or treating?

Nothing has been announced yet so I would assume with the Harry Potter construction at IOA, HHN will stick to the Studios for the next few years.

I think the hotels do something but I'm not sure. Someone else will clarify that for you. :thumbsup2

Hi Lisa:goodvibes
We've been to HHN a few times and we love it. I really like how it is adult-oriented. It is very scary. I would not consider taking my teenagers; maybe when they're 16 or 17, but not right now (they're 14 & 15). Both have expressed their not wanting to go. They said they would rather spend the time in the hotel room watching TV! They would rather go to MNSSHP.
The first time we went in '98 we didn't see One Kid. Then when we went in '03, we saw a few and they were not happy! Our last trip in '06 I was shocked at how many little kids I saw. It broke my heart watching and hearing them cry and scream.
First off, the parent has just laid out a pretty penny bringing their kid into the park and the kid doesn't want to be there. He's kicking and screaming that he wants to go, crying because he's scared. Second, when the kid is upset, then mom and dad can't have any fun and now both the kid and the parents are miserable, yelling at each other.
Money is wasted and the night is spoiled.
When we've gone, we have dropped our kids off at the Neverland Club at the Polynesian. It was about $100 for the night for our two kids, but they loved it, it was someplace where I felt safe leaving my kids and we got to enjoy adult time. You do not have to be staying on Disney property to use the Neverland Club.
There is also a club for kids at the Hard Rock Hotel. My kids liked it, but not as much as the Neverland Club.
Even if your kids say they're not scared, I wouldn't take a chance. HHN's is totally In Your Face. There's a lot of drinking going on - it's like taking your kids to a really rowdy adult keg party with scary stuff going on. A lot of fun if you're an adult, but if you don't want your kid hearing/seeing/experiencing adult stuff, then don't bring them.
I hope this has helped. We'll be going this year - I just took the HHN's survey and it looks like it's going to be an awesome party!

Thanks everyone. We will NOT be taking our kids.
Any suggestions for them? we don't want to do disney. We have done it the last several years. We might if there are no alternatives,.

If anyone knows about trick or treating in City Walk, the resorts or even anything that goes on at Sea World I would love to hear about it.

Thanks again,
Lisa

I don't recall trick-or-treating at CityWalk. Not to say it has never happened, but I just don't remember even hearing a mention of it. My suspicion is that they prefer the parking garage be filled with HHN patrons, and that no one be even tempted to bring kids to that event.

Sea World sets up candy stations along a path. Some of the booths give healthy snacks, too, like nuts or applesauce. Kids are encouraged to dress in costume, and all kinds of costumed characters are out. I know it runs most (possibly all) weekends in October, although, ironically, I'm not sure if they do it on Halloween itself. Given the season, SW probably closes at 6 that day.

I don't know a lot of details, but apparently you could also go trick-or-treating in Celebration. I know this only because I met some residents in Fridays last year--they had left home mid-afternoon because, they said, it would be a 2-hour drive to leave that evening.

This last year SW did do the Trick or Treating on Halloween. They also do it every weekend in October. We go every year and the kids love it. Also the trick or treating is including in the regular admisson to SW (No extra ticket to buy :))
