questions about guests checking in a day early...

We will be spending a week at BWV in July with my family of 4, plus my brother and his wife. They will be flying in from CA and arriving Friday night, while we will be driving in from MI and arriving Saturday morning. While we have a 2 BR booked for the week, we were lucky enough to be able to get them a studio for the Friday they arrive.

We are hoping to be able to keep the studio and just open it up to the 2 BR the next day. When would we find out if this is possible? Would they know when they check in, or not until the next morning? Would they get a new key that reads differently as far as DVC goes?

Would they have any DVC privledges the night that they are on their own, or not until we join them?

Are there any complications in doing this that I might not be aware of?

Though we bought back in 2000, this will actually be our first trip home! We have stayed at HH and BWI, but never at our official home of BWV! Thanks for the help!

Are the reservations linked? If not have MS link them and ask them to note on your reservation your request. The room assigner should have no problem with giving you your request. We have gone from a 2bdrm to a 1 bdrm after members left, so I don't see why it can't work for you in the reverse.
They should be able to enjoy your member benefits because the room key will say DVC member on it. You might have to have the room key rekeyed after the first night, I think we did. Contact the room assigner a few days before to confirm your requests.

As AnnK suggests, you must have the reservations linked to do what you suggest. I'd also make sure that their names are on both reservations. If they are not on the Fri reservation, they may not even be able to check in.

They will definitely have to check in both days and get a new room key for the 2BR, but if the resservations are not linked, they will have to be physically out of the studio by 11:00am and then get back into the 2BR at 4pm.

You'll need to make sure that MS has it designated this way and your guests should reconfirm that plan when they check in.

It can certainly be done, but the request needs to be specifically made.

While it's certainly possible, you should also be prepared in case it doesn't work out. Remember you're looking for a 2-B/R lock off unit wherein someone has been using the other side as a 1-B/R and the Studio will be vacant for Friday and the people in the 1-B/R section are checking out on the Saturday.

In other words, of all the 2-B/R lock off units at BWV, how many of them are being used as a 1-B/R only, and of those how many of those will be checking out on Saturday, and of that group, how many will have an adjoining Studio that is also vacant on the Friday.

I do wish you luck. Be sure to link the ressies right away. That way they can try to properly place the various guests checking into studios and 1-B/R units the days before your stay so that when they check out, your particular combination becomes vacant on your desired Friday and Saturday dates.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. It would be great if it works out , but no one will be disappointed if it doesn't. We will all just be happy to be there!
