Questions about getting GV in Nov 03?

Planning a stay in mid-Nov 03 for my family of 12 -- we currently have 3 rooms reserved at CSR from Nov. 9 through 15. However, I'd really prefer to have the luxury of kitchen/living area that villas provide.

I'm interested in renting points for a GV, but not sure how to find out if there is availability -- do I check first or do I get the points and then ask the seller to check for me? If I need to check, who do I need to call? If I rent, do I need to get all the points from one person? Any help would be greatly appreciated since (obviously), this is my first time on-site (and on the boards).

Many thanks, Dawn

You are already WAY too late.

GVs go at the eleven month window and they go retty quickly. There are times of the year that are harder and times that are easier. The hardest time of all is the first two weeks of December, almost as difficult is late October-early November.

You may get lucky, but I am sure their will be waitlisting involved and that doesn't work well for renting points.

Try for next year and try a few months before the eleven month window opens. Really, right now would be the time to start planning and finding a member to rent from for Nov '04.

Sorry, but you are probably a year too late.

Hi Dawn,

The GV are very limited. I doubt there would be any availability for the dates you want. I will call and check for you tomorrow, just to satisify my own curiosity! LOL I wanted to let you know that there is a rent/trade board here on DIS, you can find it at the top of the board. For 12 people, instead of renting 3 rooms at CSR, you can try to find someone on the rent/trade board to rent you the points you need for a 2 bdrm(sleeps 8 and has a FULL ktichen and living room) and a studio(sleeps 4 and has a kitchenette, coffee maker, refridgerator, and toaster with sink). at OKW. The total points for those two rooms for the dates you want is 237 points. The going rate to rent points is $10 a point. Some ask for less. some ask for more, but $10/point seems to be the going rate.

I don't know what you are paying for the 3 rooms at CSR, so this may be more or less. But you can also factor in what having a full kitchen to cook your meals in would save you from having to eat out 3 meals a day.

Good luck, and I think you should consider renting the points! DVC resorts are awesome!

Thank you both for the very helpful information. This is my first trip to WDW as an adult and I'm having lots of fun planning it -- little did I know that I should have started over a year ago! Marie, thanks so much for checking availability for me - I can't wait to find out. However, if no GV is available, I'll definitely look into a 2 BR & a studio.

Thanks again, Dawn

Just beware that you need to act fast. At this late date, even two bedrooms and studios are going to be scarce. Its very likely that there will be no availability in any DVC resort without waitlisting. Your best chance is OKW, but this is still very late for one of the most popular times of year for DVC members.

Dawn - OKW is the DVC resort that is most likely to still have 2 BR & studio availability for mid- November. Hope it works out for you. Just wanted to mention that with a party of 12, you will also really appreciate the washer & dryer right in the 2 BR unit (less luggage to bring along). At OKW the washer and dryer are full size and in a fairly large room all by themselves. Some guests have posted that they often put the Pac N' Play portable cribs (provided in the unit and suitable for most children under 3) in that room to have a quiet place for their little one to sleep!

Anyway, I know it is loads of fun to plan, so here is a link to some info on OKW rooms including floor plans:

Good luck & have fun!
