Questions About GCH

Thanks for clearing up the parking pricing, I remembered the $17 but not what it was for. We did not pay the valet fee, we self parked and DBF paid that trip so I didn't even remember what the resort fee was! LOL

As for DVD players in standard rooms, we stayed in a DTD view room in Nov 07 and we absolutely did have a DVD player in our room. Along with a fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer and flat screen TV. :)

4. The gift shop does NOT carry any food items except prepackaged snacks and cookies. NO JUICE OR MILK is sold there. There is no refrigerator in that store. All food items are sold at WWS and/or the Hearthstone Lounge in the a.m.

5. The French Dip is still on the menu at WWS. If it is NOT on the menu board, just ask anyway. They make several things that are NOT on the menu. If they have the ingredients for it, the chef at the grill will make it for you! Little known fact...they will make eggs to order at breakfast, a grilled ham and cheese, etc.

The people who stated the french dip was gone did indeed ask, and were told flat out by the CMs that it was gone gone gone.

Now, it's possible the CMs were wrong, and it's also possible that it has been brought back. But if you didn't see the posts about it, you wouldn't know that they asked about it, and were completely denied.

Gail stayed at the GCH, she had a sick girl on the trip, I'm thinkin' that if she says there was juice, milk, and snacks at the gift shop, that means she *bought* juice, milk, and/or snacks at the gift shop.... Again, it could have changed, but something being changed doesn't mean it never happened.

I just called the hotel...Pinn. Workshop is open, even today. $13/hour, minimum of 2 hours, 5pm to midnight, 5-12 years old. Dinner is an additional $5, and is served around 7pm.

I was in a theme park view room last week (facing Grizzly Rapids) and had a DVD player & refrigerator.

I think they have a fridge in the "back room" at the gift shop. I asked if they had any cold Diet Coke for sale, and the CM got me several bottles from the room that is behind the locked door beside the cash register in the gift shop.

Edited to add - my non-concierge room did have a DVD player this time, but I can't remember if I had one the last trip in December 2008. They may have added them to all rooms in the mean time.

I need to clear up a few things here that are posted and are incorrect:

1. The resort fee is $13.80. It includes SELF PARKING. If you want to do Valet, it is an ADDITIONAL $17 PER DAY. Just do Self Parking...it's right across the street next to Paradise Pier. If you won't be using your car daily, don't bother with Valet...

2. Pinocchio's Workshop has moved to the new Villas Wing. The old location has CLOSED. As of yesterday (9/28), construction work was STILL being done on the inside of the new Pinocchio's location. Not sure what this means as far as availability of child care at the GCH for the next couple weeks. The interior of Pinocchio's (as seen through the windows) was quite bare...still looked like lots of work needed to be done.

3. Standard rooms have a mini fridge. CONCIERGE rooms have DVD players. Standard rooms do NOT have DVD players.

4. The gift shop does NOT carry any food items except prepackaged snacks and cookies. NO JUICE OR MILK is sold there. There is no refrigerator in that store. All food items are sold at WWS and/or the Hearthstone Lounge in the a.m.

Standard rooms DO have DVD players..we stayed in two different standard rooms during our stay a week and a half ago and BOTH rooms HAD DVD players. Do all standard rooms have DVD players? Not sure on that one but the five different standard rooms we have had sure have.

They must of changed it in the last two weeks. We were there 9/15-9/20 and the french dip was there!!!:confused3
Maybe this is getting mixed up with the French Dips from the French Market at DL?? They discontinued theirs.

Does anyone know/remember if the standard rooms have a mini fridge? We'd like to take milk but I can't find anywhere where it says whether they have them in the room or not. Maybe they can be requested? :confused3
Our rooms have always had refrigerators in them.

We love the breakfast sandwiches at WWS. They're huge and enough to share with a nice bowl of fruit.

One word of advice to the OP too. Be sure to watch the fireworks the first night if you can. DL will cancel the fireworks if they think it is too windy, and many a time some will never get to watch them cuz they waited until the last night. Stake out a spot in front of the Castle!! These new Halloween fireworks are free to all who are in the parks. No special ticket.

Have a great time! :goodvibes

Wow! Something is screwy here. When I read this, about 6 more posts were missing. Then after I posted I was imediately taken to reply again, and found the missing ones.

Weird.

Anywhos.. so it sounds like the French Dip is gone. Wah!!:sad2: I love that sandwich!! What gives? That was my fav at the French Market and at WWS!!

Somebody posted recently - early last week I think - that they had changed the menu and taken the French Dip off!:scared1: They still have some hot menu items, but apparently they are also offering more "groceries" for the new Villas that have kitchens.

Here is the thread referencing the disappearance of the French Dip. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2287117

Wow - a lot of wrong information in this thread...
5. The French Dip is still on the menu at WWS. If it is NOT on the menu board, just ask anyway.
The French Dip is gone. We were at the GCH from 9/22-9/26. It was not on the menu board and I asked for it on 9/25 and they told me it wasn't available any more. As in - he had no ingredients to actually make the French Dip.
Pinocchio's Workshop has moved to the new Villas Wing. The old location has CLOSED. As of yesterday (9/28), construction work was STILL being done on the inside of the new Pinocchio's location. Pinocchio's Workshop is open in its new location. It is wonderful! I know this because my daughter spent the evening there on 9/26 while we ate at the Napa Rose Chef's Counter. She absolutely loved it! My advice is to fill out the paperwork before you arrive - it will save you time.
3. Standard rooms have a mini fridge. CONCIERGE rooms have DVD players. Standard rooms do NOT have DVD players.
Standard rooms have DVD players and fridges. Our DTD View room on the 5th floor had a DVD player.

Well, sorry about the French Dip thing. I had one on 9/1. At that time, it was NOT on the menu board, but they were wheeling in an ENTIRE cart of French Dip rolls, so I asked and the chef at the grill told me "sure, I can still make you one, even though it's not on the menu." They use the same beef on the nachos...and I assumed that since the nachos are still on the menu, so too the French Dip, if you just ask.

As for the DVD player being standard in all rooms? I got the information that they are NOT from several CM's on the reservation line. We needed a dvd player in our room, and I was told by at least 3 CM's during calls to the hotel reservation number that ONLY concierge level rooms had DVD players. That actually pushed our decision to book a CL room...unless the information about the rooms is outdated, and they added them to all rooms, I would not assume this to be the case. I stayed in a standard room in 2005. There was NOT a dvd player in there...but there was also NOT a flat panel t.v. either...

Glad to hear that Pinocchio's is open. When I was there on 9/28, there was, LITERALLY a group of men in hard hats installing track lighting in there, over near the computers. There were tarps laid down all over the floor as well, and a crew painting. I made the (incorrect, obviously) assumption that the place was still under construction, and not open yet. It's a bit worrisome to me that they were PAINTING one morning and then potentially having kids in there the same night for daycare...:rolleyes1

We spent 5 nights last week in a standard room on the 3rd floor and can confirm it had a mini-fridge and a flat screen tv.

We just got back from the GCH last week - standard room on the 5th floor and it had a flat screen, mini fridge, and a DVD player.
