I know the minimum is 150 to get full membership direct… but could you buy less then that direct and get the same restrictions as resale?

If You can. If one were to buy let’s say 100 points now… if they then bought another 50 direct in a year (assuming the minimum is still 150) wold you then become a full member?

I assume you are referring to blue card benefits

The answer is no. You need to have 150 points direct to get blue card benefits.

There is nothing stop you from having 100 resale, then at some point in future get 150 direct to get the blue card. But 150 is the minimum

No, as a new first time member the direct minimum buy is 150. Also happens to be the amount needed for a blue card.

The minimum for new buyers was raised to 150 in early June and as mentioned, qualifies for a blue card.

Prior to this, the minimum for purchase was different than for membership perks. But, it appears DVD has now adjusted things so they are one in the same for the new buyer.

Once an owner, one is eligible to add onto that same membership for less. Or, of course, add more points via resale.

Is there a minimum point requirement in order to be able to purchase less than 150 direct? For example, could you buy as little as 25 resale and then be able to do smaller add-ons direct? This might be a good hybrid strategy for someone who wants the blue card benefits but doesn't want to drop the $$$ on 150 all at once. I guess if you only wanted 150 points, you'd end up with 175 this way, but at least the pain could be spread out.

I don’t think I saw any restrictions as to how many points you must have, but rather only if you are already a DVC member in order to buy the 25 min in cash for most of the resorts and 50 min for Riviera and I think Copper creek. I get it if someone doesn’t have all the cash up front to buy all 150 direct points at once, but I would keep in mind the closing cost for each separate contract you buy and who knows when Disney might raise the limit again. It might be a chasing game to buy in small steps with the goal of getting the blue card.

That was a really good question. I'm feeling some regret for not jumping on direct before it went to 150 ... we were tempted.

Yes. Once you are an owner, you may add on to the membership with as little as 25 points at some resorts and 50 at RIV and CCV.

They must be the same UY and same owners to be considered an add on. If one wants a different UY, or there are different owners, then you must meet the minimum required.

This is how I did it when I first bought 50 points resale to start.

As a follow-up to the original question:

If I buy in on resale, do I get access to the ability to buy smaller direct contracts? For instance, I've got 250 pts from BLT going through ROFR. If I get those, could I add on 50 pts. direct as soon as I'm in the system?

I know I wouldn't get the blue card due to only having 50 direct, but I figured maybe 2-3 smaller add-ons of 50-100 pts and I'd be there.

Yes, Once an owner, you are eligible to add on with as little as 25 at some resorts, and 50 points at RIV and AUL.

Cool! Thanks! I thought that was how it worked, but then I realized I was merely assuming that and didn't know for sure.

I asked this to the dvc guide the other day. He said now that I’m an owner I can add on any amount 25+ and once I reach 150 then I would get a blue card.:)

Once an owner you are an owner in terms of adding on points it does not matter if you are direct or resale...you have a membership so they just piggyback your contract for direct add ons
