Having a bad case of addonitis. Own at AKL, but interested in BLT.
I see plenty of small BLT contracts on resale market for very reasonable prices.
I am interested in buying about 50 to 100 BLT points.
Will probably pay cash.
Questions:
1) Would you recommend that I buy now or wait after the March changes? Do you project the prices to rise or fall on resales after March?
2) Could I purchase the 50 to 100 points directly from Disney? Sorry, I bought from resale years ago, so I'm not familiar with direct purchase rules. What would the minimum number of points be to buy direct from Disney? Do I pay closing costs with Disney? (I think with resale, I have to pay again even if I am an owner now, right?).
Thanks in advance. Any info given is greatly appreciated.

1. When you buy is up to you. I think most people suspect the prices will fall, but no one really knows because the resale prices are linked at least somewhat to the direct price and there is March increase for BLT to $140
2. You can purchase directly from Disney. The minimum purchase for a member is 25 pts

i project prices to fall...a small amount...eventually if not immediately on march 21.

i've been wrong before...

yes, since you are a current owner.

What would the minimum number of points be to buy direct from Disney?

25 if you pay cash. 50 if you finance.

Do I pay closing costs with Disney?

i don't believe so, no.

(I think with resale, I have to pay again even if I am an owner now, right?).

correct.

First of all, I would look at what 100 points at BLT will give me. If you just need more points, AKV would be much less, and you'd only have the 11 month window at BLT with your BLT points. If you buy there, be sure you are getting something that will actually benefit your family.

If you are going to buy resale, I'd buy now. While you may not currently use the full range of options with DVC, you also may not want to preclude the possibility of using your new points however you see fit. And it would be a hassle (IMHO) to have one contract with full benefits and one without...especially a small one without.

If you can find a resale you like, you'll just have to do the math between resale with closing costs and $130-140 per point direct without closing costs.

Also, if you are going to buy a small contract resale in this environment, you're going to have to be REALLY ready to pull the trigger. If you hesitate at all, someone else is going to snatch a good contract away from you.

If you can't find what you want, or aren't quite ready to buy, I'd buy direct.

You're not likely to get massive savings buying only 50 points resale. 100 points, you'd just have to do that math and see, but even then I don't think the savings would be huge.

I say go for it! :thumbsup2I just did. I was in your place last week and talked with a CM. I couldn't rationalize the price. BWV resale for $61..direct $115. BLT difference isn't as much.;)

No closing cost direct from DVC..probably @$450 resale

Hard choice to make...but I would consider how mch $$ you would even save if you bought resale...@ $35/point X 50 - $450 closing...

Thanks for all the wise responses above! :goodvibes
A small update: I spoke with my guide and I am seriously considering:
Bay Lake 100 points at $115 pp with $500 Visa gift card and all 100 points from 2010 which I can bank to 2011. No closing costs. Same UY as my AKL contract.
Another option was a 100 point contract that got my attention from an email that the TSS sent this morning. VWL 100 points $68pp. BUT, when I called TSS 2 hours after the email got sent out, the contract was already SOLD! :sad2: I asked to be back up in case that deal fell through. But man, that was fast! :headache: (see Jim's post above about pulling the trigger fast).
So far, no other resale contracts have caught my fancy. I am still on the hunt, though. But if I do not find one I like, I will most likely purchase directly thru Disney. (Or maybe I'll wait and look at the resale prices especially after March 20???!! ARGHHH!!! :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1)

At the end of this year you will be able to get a very good deal. It will be post March 20, people selling will realize what the market is for the points post March 20 and they will be looking to unload prior to paying 2012 maintenance fees....

You will save a bundle. The lack of flexibility to use your points for cruises, hotels etc..after March 20 is not worth paying direct prices.

If you want to go on a Disney Cruise etc..rent your points for Cash and use the cash for those type of things....

Buy resale and save $1000 maybe 2000 dollars...unless of course money is no object than buy direct

It isn't neccessarily that "money is no object"; rather it could be what you are looking for isn't available via resale or the convenience/ease of buying through Disney is worth the extra $. We've added on twice at our home resort of BLT, and both times the incentives offered by Disney as well as the guarantee of same UY made any premium paid over purchasing a resale contract well worth it.

I actually think that the direct price you are getting from Disney on 100 BLT points is pretty good. If you get 2010 pts, then I look at it like a $10 per point discount, and the $500 gift card is like another $5 off, so net price is $100 per point, no closing costs, and you can have the points almost immediately and use a credit card if you want :).
