Hello, I have a couple of questions for you Mommy's out there (or Daddy's too I suppose). We will be flying to Orlando in just over a month :woohoo: . I can't wait, but its been a long time since we've flown and I was wondering what kind of liquids can I bring with me through security. I usually bring a bottle of water and dry formula powder for the baby, so I can make fresh formula when she needs it. Will they let me bring the water for formula, or will I have security drama trying to get it through? Should I make bottles first, will they let that through:confused3 ? I'm just confused!!!! A related question, what exactly is the "Sippy Cup Scandal" thing I have been reading about? I have no idea what it refers too

Also, how much spending money do you guys usually bring? We will be 5, Me, DH, DS, DD, and baby DD. I do like to buy gifts and things at the parks, I don't want to spend a whole lot, but would like to plan enough for us to have fun, do you know wht I mean? I'm sorry, it's hard to put into words. We already have the DP so we won't need to budget food, maybe an extra snack or two, we will be there for 10 nights. Any ideas will be helpful. TIA for you help :thumbsup2

Just wait until you get through security and buy water and drinks to bring on the plane. You just need to wait until you are past security.

The sippy cup thing was, as far as I followed it, a woman traveling alone with her toddler who had a sippy cup with water in it. She was asked to pour it out, and instead, according to the news according to the security videocameras, she opened it and DUMPED it out on the floor instead.

This is the TSA link about traveling with drinks for babies. However, I think they are focused more on the pre-made formula vs the dry formula that you mix with water...if I were using such a thing I likely would not push the issue, and would just buy water past security.

Since a bottle of breastmilk is made in advance, so to speak, and they are supposed to allow it through without drama, however, I would imagine a pre-mixed bottle would be fine as well. But I'm not a TSA agent and I haven't even brought a bottle of breastmilk on, so I don't KNOW, I'm just theorizing by what it states on the page. :)

I have read on other posts that people who have specified the bottle of water was for the baby they allowed it thru. On our last trip ds (4) had a sippy cup with milk in it and they let it thru because it was milk. The agent told me if it had been juice we would have had to toss it . You can always just buy water after you get thru security but it will be chilled probably, which should only be a problem if you can't wait for it to come back up to room temp. Maybe running it under warm water in the restroom would help. Before we traveled for the first time, we actually got ds used to taking his bottle at room temp which made things easier.

Thank you for the replies. I might try to bring water from home, if they give me a hard time, I'll just toss it out. It's just water after all. The other kids will just get drinks after security, they like that anyway.

You can definitely bring one or two pre-mixed formula bottles through. Powder & water separately will be at the discretion of the TSA. I think you might have a better chance with this if the water is in the baby bottle rather than a water bottle. And, buying water after you get through works, too, of course.

Please check with TSA on this. Out of the Philly airline you cannot bring the premixed stuff over 3oz. Two definitely will not get through. Some one had a link to the TSA website, give it a look.

I'm confused. If you know you will most likely be told to dump it, why bring the water? It is not like you can't get more.:confused3 Why hold up the security line unnecessarily?

From the TSA web site:

When carrying formula, breast milk, or juice through the checkpoint, they will be inspected, however, you or your baby or toddler will not be asked to test or taste breast milk, formula, or juice. Our Security Officers will not test or taste formula, breast milk, or juice.

When traveling with a child, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of baby formula, breast milk, or juice are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary, if you perform the following:

Separate these items from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size and zip-top bag.
Declare you have the items to one of our Security Officers at the security checkpoint.
Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening.
You are encouraged to travel with only as much formula, breast milk, or juice in your carry-on needed to reach your destination.

You are allowed to bring gel or liquid-filled teethers, canned, jarred, or processed baby food in your carry-on baggage and aboard your plane.

For information on creams, medicines, or other essential items for your child, please read our guidance on these items. Click here for the list of permitted and prohibited items.

Liquids and gels, including baby formula, breast milk, or juice, may be packed in your luggage and checked with your airline.

After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area on-board aircraft.

For more details on navigating the screening process with your children, please read our information on traveling with children.

If they give you a hard time, ask for a supervisor. I'd plan on at least a couple extra bottles, the way the airlines have been holding people hostage on planes on tarmacks for hours on end lately.

can you bring a can of formula that is sealed? I think they are 8 oz.

I think those are ok, give Philly airport a call 1-800-phL-gate Erin. Unfortunately my kids are evil teenagers now so I'm reporting what I've been seeing at the airport. I'm usually flying to Chicago or Boston twice a week and it seems like they have been giving the poor moms such a hard time lately.

I'm just curious about the 3 oz of formula thing. I don't know one baby that would only be drinking 3 oz of formula, what about the babies that only drink the premixed liquid you buy from the store? I guess there are problems all through airport security's rules and regs.

I would bring the water from home because I would prefer to make her bottles with the baby water from the store, as far as I know you can't get that in the airport.

Ok I just had to ask, my youngest is 6, what is in the baby water you are paying extra for at the store? Just curious.

That's why you are allowed to bring as much formula as you'll need for the trip plus a little extra in case of delays.

OK, I'm stumped. What the heck is "baby water"?

Its just nursery water, just filtered water that you can use in bottles. I get water really cheap at the commissary on post. I would never put tap water in a bottle or give it to my baby to drink. I cringe when the kids want to drink from a fountain :scared: I know its weird, but as my best freind tells me, I'm obsessive :lmao: But in my defense, we used to be stationed in Germany and were not supposed to drink the water because of lead on the pipes. So we just got used to drinking the bottled stuff.
