Questions about ADRs and prices

Hi everyone. I have two questions about dining:

1. My mom was supposed to join us for the first seven days of our upcoming trip, but now she has decided not to go. The ADRs we have set are for five people, and now we will only need four. I am worried that if I try to mess with the reservations online that I'll lose our time slots. Is it better to just show up and say there are only four of us instead of five? Or should I call dining and try to adjust them?

2. My second question has to do with pricing. We will be upgrading our passes to Premier Passports after our first day in the park, and we will also be purchasing a TIW card, so we will be dealing with some discounts. I am wondering how the tax, gratuity, and discounts are applied, as in which comes first? I am assuming that the tax is based on the original balance, as well as the 18% gratuity for the TIW meals? I really don't know what amount the discount is based on.

Thanks! :goodvibes

I can't answer the 2nd one. But the first one, IMO keep them as is and let them know when you check in. It's not like you're adding anyone on. But even that shouldn't be a problem if the original reservation was for 5 because you would likely be seated at a table for 6. If I remember correctly, odd number parties go up to the next higher even number.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

I would just leave the reservations as is and let them now at check in also -
It would be to easy to mess up -

I agree, this make sense to me.

That is exactly my fear! I think I will leave them alone, unless someone out there has been refused seating because their party size was smaller than expected?

Anyone have thoughts on how the discount bills are totaled?

I don't know how to answer #2 but I would just show up at your ADRs with one less. We had to do this for one of our reservations and it was NBD.

You can go online and see if you can switch them without losing the times. Don't cancel, just search. If you can, then great, it will open up a table for someone trying to make an ADR with a party of 5 or 6, if not, don't worry about it. They deal with it all the time...people get sick etc.

I'm not sure about the second question. I imagine tax will be based on your meal cost, and gratuity will be calculated based on meal cost+tax. Then your discount will be calculated based on the whole amount. Wow, that's complicated.

Here's the best explanation of how it's calculated using the TIW. Check out Cheshire Figment's post #7:

Thank you! I am on my way to check this out. :goodvibes

That's what I am hoping. And yes, it is pretty complicated. Although, I guess it is just my weird and obsessive nature that I am even thinking about it...like I really need to know every little detail like this!
