Questions about add-ons

I am not yet an owner but am thinking about resale for BWV or BCV. I have some questions about add-ons.

1. Can you add on any point amount you want or does Disney have specific amounts you must buy, i.e., 25pts, 50 pts 100 pts?

2. When you buy an add-on how does it work with your existing UY?

3. Would it be finacially advantageous to purchase a small contract at resale and then do add-ons? I would love to own at either BWV or BCV for their location, and also at VWL for early December vacations and maybe BLT because I suspect the MK view room will always be gone at 11 months out.

DH and I will be touring the models in Jan 09 (I did a tour this July). DH said I could have DVC but he won't commit until he sees it for himself.

Almost. The minumum add-on is 25 points if you are paying cash and 50 points if you are financing. Other than those restrictions, they can be in any amount. So if you want 89 points, then you can add-on 89 points.

2. When you buy an add-on how does it work with your existing UY?

The add-on contract will have the same UY as your master (i.e. first) contract.

3. Would it be finacially advantageous to purchase a small contract at resale and then do add-ons? I would love to own at either BWV or BCV for their location, and also at VWL for early December vacations and maybe BLT because I suspect the MK view room will always be gone at 11 months out.

Yes, if you want smaller amounts at multiple resorts, then resale is the way to go. That way your master contract can be less than 160 points. Also the sold-out resorts are cheaper via resale than direct through Disney.

You say that you are thinking about resale. When buying resale you review the resale listings and pick the contract size and UY that you are interested in. I would do this for your initial purchase and for your add-ons for every where other than BLT. You can save mucho money buying resale.

depends on what you mean. starting small is nice if it means you don't need financing, but there is a premium to be paid for smaller contracts, so if you buy a 200 pt resale, you will most likely pay less per pt than if you start with a 50 pt resale and add on another 150 pts at different resorts (most add-ons do not qualify for incentives and will cost around $100 per pt or more).

and just to be clear (although you probably are already aware of this), you will only be able to book BWV with BWV pts at 11 months and BLT with BLT pts at 11 months, even if you own pts at both. your BLT pts (and VWL pts and so on) will be useless for booking BWV until the 7 month window and vice-versa.
