If my math is right, it has been about 8 days since the stuff hit me. My fever is gone but the fatigue and stuffiness is just as bad. I also can’t taste certain things and I often feel nauseous.

I don’t think that still dealing with some of this is unusual but I wanted to hear what others have dealt with. I have a vacation in three weeks and wonder if I will be able to go. It would be the first one in almost a decade.

By the way, I have taken shots but I’m not caught up. I don’t know if that mattered. I also think I caught this at the hospital when I went in for a test. Figures. 😢

Nope, not unusual. I had it the 2nd time a little over a month ago. I feel mostly back to normal, but the energy / fatigue has been the longest lingering symptom. My worst days with congestion were 5-8. I didn't lose taste and smell this time, but I did the first time. I lost it around day 5, and I think it was about a week later when it was coming back. The first thing I could smell was my toothpaste, and I was so excited (we know someone who lost it for over a year so I was kind of freaked out). I exercise a lot, and when I first resumed after the latest round, I could jog about 3 minutes and be pretty wiped out. I'm definitely much better now, but still don't feel quite 100%. Some of that could be endurance lost from the time off though. My last vaccine was last fall.

Anyway, if your vacation is not extreme sports intensive, I would think you'll be fine to go. I suggest using a neti pot nasal rinse to help resolve the stuffiness. I can't say enough good things about that, it has kept me from developing sinus infections so many times, and provided so much relief from the congestion. Just be sure to use distilled / boiled water.

It took six months for things to taste and smell normal for my wife when she had covid. I had no side effects. We were negative with home tests after 7 days, but it took another 7 days to get a negative PCR test.

I have had it 4 times. The first was March 2020 when it came out. I am middle-aged without any health issues (a little overweight.) It kicked my butt. One night I laid in bed wondering if I needed to go to hospital because I was struggling to breathe. I did not want to call an ambulance for fear of giving it to them (was pretty confident that is what I had - no tests then) and I knew I could not drive myself. I had a fever for 10 days and slept most of them for 20 hours. After being fever free for three days I left my bedroom for about 15 minutes. I got up and my family asked where I was off to since I just became "free!" I was heading back to bed. It took my a few months to get back to 100%. Round 2 was 6 hours of fever and sleeping. Then I got up and said what does everyone want for dinner and was fine. Round 3 I wouldn't have known I was positive but my husband worked with people who were positive and he became positive too. I had a slight nasal drip and congestion. This past August no fever, but it kicked my butt like 2020. I was lethargic for all of August. I would say this round took me 6 weeks to feel somewhat normal. Last week I started exercising again (which is only walking.) In two weeks I will start the one class with weights with colleagues at work. I will do what I can. Listen to your body. Rest when you can and know it is okay. What kind of vacation are you going on? If to the beach - go. You can enjoy that. A trip of hiking or intense Disney day, you may want to modify. One week can make a difference though. Feel better and fingers crossed your trip is memorable for the right reasons!

I have not had trouble breathing thank goodness. Just the endless fatigue has really been hard. My trip is theme park but I don’t tend to run hard any more.

I will get another Neti pot - excellent idea!

I've had it twice, that I know of. The second time, I didn't feel anything. I only knew of it cause my SO told me we were exposed at a large party and to get tested. If I've had it more than twice, then I have no idea.

First time was the worst for me. Took a few weeks for the lingering fatigue to fade and a couple extra weeks for digestive issues to settle down. I’d say you have good odds of going on your trip.

On the bright side the second time it was like any old cold, no lingering symptom nonsense!

I've had it twice and didn't even know.....the first time I just thought it was allergies (it was June), but then DH had flu like symptoms, so we tested and both had it.
The second time, didn't know I had it again.....and DH just had the allergy like symptoms.

It's been a couple of weeks since my last round. I didn't have any upper congestion, but the lower congestion was crazy. My voice is just now starting to get back to normal. I've also had a small, annoying headache along with some tiredness. Never lost taste or smell. It's all improved a little each day. Hope you're back to 100% by your vacation. :)

Everyone's different.

I'm the only one in my family that hasn't gotten it and I think its because my blood type is O and they have said O is less likely to get it and A is more likely to get it.

My parents both hate it earlier this year.
My mom is immunocompromised and she was sick for nearly 2 months mostly with a horrible cough, slight fever, deaf in one ear, and smelled weird things.
My dad was sick for like 6 hours and then it was just like a cold for a few days.

I’m on day 4 of my third bout of covid. First time was like a mild flu, 2nd time was pretty bad and this one is worse. I’ve been alternating Tylenol and Advil or else my fever goes up. Started Paxlovid yesterday. It’s giving me a nasty taste in my mouth and upsetting my stomach. Very small improvement in sore throat but still really runny nose and cough.

On my third round of Covid right now. Caught on the Disney fantasy on the 8/31 cruise. Felt terrible for about 3 days - fever, body aches and congestion. Then started to feel better. Now feel bad again, but not as bad. Didn’t have to see a Dr this time.

Covid can take a while to totally clear up, but it always has for me.

Had 3 vaccines. Had covid 3 times. I am 51 and healthy. It's been less bad each time. Seems to be we get it like every 8-12 months ish. Been about 11 months since last time and so we are due. Got it on a cruise last time. Was mildly sick for like 5 days. I am an O blood type as is the hubby and we've both gotten covid the same times.

It is fascinating how this varies so much. Thanks for sharing, you’ve all given me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

My 2 cases were like that too, felt like allergies for a few days. We are some of the lucky ones in that regard. The fact that it is surging again makes me think I may go back to wearing a mask on my next plane ride. Next one could be worse!

Wow …didn’t realize it was back to that degree. I know quite a few people who’ve had it recently, but loss of taste wasn’t one of their symptoms. I’m not caught up on my shots but the first two times I had it my symptoms were fairly mild. Guess I’ve been lucky so far this time around….

Cinnamon gum works well for Paxlovid mouth.

Unfortunately Covid hits everyone different every time they have it. I had it for the first time last July after a WDW trip. I had mild cold symptoms until day 5 or 6, then I got the fever, exhaustion & cough. The fever lasted a week. The absolute worst thing for me was the nausea. I could sip ginger ale & tea with no sugar, & stopped all my vitamins or meds except my blood pressure pill for a few days. After 2 days of the nausea, I started taking some priobiotics I had in the house & that seemed to help. The day after the fever broke, I was able to walk outside to the neighbors driveway & back. All in all, it was about 3 1/2 weeks til I felt mostly back to normal.

I have it for the 2nd time right now, also after a WDW trip. Thankfully it isn’t as bad as last year. My husband felt sick Monday.. headache, exhausted & cough. He tested +. I had a runny nose & burning throat at the same time but tested negative. Retested Tuesday & was +. I had a slight fever & felt horrible Thursday & only slight nausea 1 evening. The nasal congestion, sneezing & tiredness has been pretty bad. But today I have actually been feeling better as the day has gone on. For me, it seemed like the fatigue just got better 1 day & kept improving once it did. My husband had it both times I did. For him, it was 24 hours of fever, nausea & sleeping. But the next day he had a cough but felt 90% better. The cough lingered the first time, but this time, his cough was gone by Thursday & he felt back to normal.

I think you’ll probably feel much better by your trip. You might just have to take things slow or take some extra rest periods if you’re still a bit tired. The good news is…. You don’t have to worry about catching Covid on your trip! Hope you start feeling better soon. :flower3:

I had it a few months ago. Started with a sore throat and cold like symptoms. Got a fever and body aches and congestion. I was pretty sick for 3 days. Huge improvement day 4 (no fever) and back to normal by day 5-6.

DH and I are the only ones in our entire family/friends who haven’t gotten it. No clue why. Even our son had it a couple months ago and by the time he realized and tested positive we had been exposed for 2 days in close contact. So we didn’t even bother this time staying away from him. We all stayed homebodies that week.

DH is O and I’m B. We don’t understand why after so many exposures just never get it. Neither of us is the epitome of health 😂 Don’t workout, just some physical things at work and around the house. No special diets or vitamins or anything. We both take blood pressure meds in our mid-50s. A little chubby.
