Question regarding the new reservation system and multiple locations

So when you have a situation with two different consecutive reservations at different DVC locations, but the reservation number is the same for both, I'm wondering how this works as far as room keys and check in?

Do you check in at each place, the same as normal, and get new keys at each place, or do you only check in once and keep the same key card?

The main reason I ask is because we added the dining plan to both reservations. Somehow my son is listed twice on the" overal travel plan", each with sightly different spellings. However, only one version of my son is staying in each of the rooms. Son version one is listed on the first reservation, and then Son version two is listed in the subsequent reservation. Does anyone anticipate a problem with this?

I've never heard of someone having the same reservation # for 2 different locations. AFAIK, those have always been 2 separate bookings, each with their own number (that's been my personal experience). But apparently your confirmation shows something else.

You will have to check in at resort #2 and get new KTTW cards - again, as far as I know - I have never heard it any other way even since the new segmented reservations started recently.

I don't really understand the advantage of the one reservation number because you need to check in at each resort.

With the new upgrades to the system, they are now allowed to list multiple reservations for the same trip under one reservation number with an indication that you have a continuing reservation. This is true whether you stay in the same resort with different room types or switch resorts. In theory, this is great. However, there was some confusion with our reservation and keys over the holidays.

We switched from a studio to a 2 br lock off both at BCV. At first they told us that we wouldn't need to change keys, but we ended up needing to change keys. In fact we had to change keys 3 times. Note: the system changes were only 3 days old at this point and some of the confusion was due to my brother's family checking in for the 2nd room part of the reservation vs. for the entire trip.

Just be sure that all the information is correct regarding who is staying in the room on which dates. If there are any errors, call and get them straightened out now so you won't have issues when you get there.
