Question Regarding OKW Grand Villa

Has anyone stayed in a GV with people sleeping on the sleep sofa? Does it lack a lot of privacy?

I'm thinking of having a cousin stay there with his gf for our trip in 2005-(they are in their mid 30s) and I was going to take the cost of the maintenance fees and divide them among everyone in the family, but I'm afraid whoever stays on the pullout couch is going to feel jipped!

Can anyone comment on the sleep sofa?

I've never stayed in a GV, but remember them somewhat from the sales tour. Wouldn't it be the same privacy issues as anyone sleeping on the pull-out in a 1 or 2 bedroom unit? I don't know if GVs have a separate entrance to the first floor restroom, like the newer 1 & 2 bedroom units, or if they changed design at bldg 30 and up, too.

We were in a GV in Bldg 63 or 65, HC unit. There was a separate bathroom including shower with an entrance off of the main hall. I slept for a little bit on the sofa bed, since DH's snoring drove me from the bedroom. It wasn't the most comfortable, but I think I have read that they are replacing the sofa beds. I would not want to "pay" as much for the sofa bed as for the bedrooms; there isn't much privacy, unless the people staying there were early birds, who were going to wake up before everyone else.

The couch is in the living room. There is a bath room on the first floor that can be used by thie person sleeping on the sleeper.

Yes - Privacy issues are basically the same as a 1 or 2 bdrm. The pull out sofa is still in the living room and the kitchen is right off the living room so anyone else in the villa who wakes up before them would inevitably end up waking them once they come down stairs (or out of the MB) or at least end up tip toeing around to try and avoid it That being said though, I agree it wouldn't really be fair to charge the same for staying on the pull out as for staying in one of the bdrms. Especially when the pull out may not be very comfy. As for the bathrooms, we stayed in a GV in bldng. 53 ( I think - it was a couple yrs ago now) and there were 4 bathrooms alltogether. 1 for each bdrm and 1 in the hall between the living room and the Master bdrm.

I wouldn't charge the couple on the couch ANY of the maintenance fees as compensation for the lack of privacy and so that they would't feel "jipped" and maybe even happy because they got such a good deal!

If you must charge them something then give the couple on the couch a steep discount on the maintenance fees. Maybe instead of spliting the fees 25% for each of the rooms and the couch, split it 30% for each room and 10% for the couch.

I have to agree with the other posters. Whomever is relegated to the LR should be early risers. We have never had couples on the LR sofa, but tend to put older teens or single 20 somethings in the LR. They usually don't even bother to pull out the sleeper, but one sleeps on the sofa with blanket etc, and one sleeps on the love seat.

I'd say the couple on the couch should be the people that stay up the latest. If they are the earliest risers, so much the better. But if they decide to turn in early, then the whole living area becomes off-limits. If they decide to sleep late, OTOH, they could probably find a bed to crash in.

Who is going, but if you have kids, the adults get the bedrooms and the kids camp out in the living room on the sofa bed and sleeping bags or aerobeds.

Just a thought, but if you're charging folx to stay and don't want anyone to feel cheated, there's always the option for you to stay on the pull out in the living room. I didn't say it was a good option.

BTW, free etymology lesson: the term is gypped, and probably derives from the word gypsy, which in turn is probably derived from some goofy belief that the wandering people known as gypsies were somehow egyptian.

Here's the breakdown- 7 couples (including dh and myself) and 4 children total. We'll be renting a grand villa and 3 studios.--The way I look at it there are only 6 bedroom doors that will close, so one couple either sleeps on the couch or shares a studio- the kids sleep wherever.

jmminarik- you are right- that definitely was not a good option. DH loves my big Italian family, but he's also got a slight social anxiety disorder so he DEFINITELY needs a door he can close when we get too crazy and he needs to get away.

I think SOMEONE in my family is going to either get the couch or share a studio....I may have to offer reduced pricing to whoever that is.....unless one couple drops out of the vacation plans before next year, which is a possibility.
