Question Regarding Add On through Resale

We just made an offer on a small add-on contract through resale (TSS). I have a few questions:

(1) If everything goes well, how would I go about "linking" my current membership to the resale contract? Do I call Member Administration?

(2) I called my guide and she told me that if/when the resale contract closes, the resale contract and my currently memberships would technically be two memberships, but they'll link them for use. Is this right (that I'll have two memberships)? Will I have 2 membership numbers?

(3) If the two contracts are linked together, can I use points from both contracts to make one reservation rather than transferring points between the contracts?

TIA and wish us luck on the ROFR process! :goodvibes

Hopefully you read posts here on the DIS discussing add on UYs. If you bought the same UY and titled the ownership the same as your original contract you won't have any trouble.

depends on what you mean by 2 memberships.

1) if they are the same UY and titled the same, they should operate under 1 membership number (xxxxxxx.01 and xxxxxxx.02 or something like that).

2) regardless of whether they are under the same member number, you can sell or will them separately.

If the two contracts are linked together, can I use points from both contracts to make one reservation rather than transferring points between the contracts?

if they are under the same membership number, yes - you can pool pts together (at 11 months out if the same home resort or at 7 months out if different home resorts).

Is the only way you can use points from two contracts (if you add on) on one reservation without transferring points between by:
1) having the same use year
2) having all deeds titled the same

If you have different use years, and thus different member numbers, does that mean you can't pool the points at 7 months for one reservation without doing a formal points transfer?

#2 is less concerning, our parents and us are on the same contract, so if we add on we'd just have to add them to our add on, too?

I ahd not seen any threads about keeping same UY until I just now saw your post. Boy do I wish I had known...
I literally just signed contract on Friday for 50pt addon AKV to go with my 200 SSR original contract and they have diff UY.

I may just have to give up my $500 deposit, because not being able to use the points together without transferring points is going to be a pain:guilty:

Even resale almost always has a period that you can back out so check your documents. If you can't do that or decide to go ahead with the purchase you can do a couple of things with the small contract. A simple one is to just transfer all the current points into the second contract every year. You will still have the ability to bank them and you can pool them at 7 months without any problem. Or another option to use the points at 7 months is to book a certain number of days with your one contract and then remaining days with the second and have MS link the reservations. We have 2 UY's and I've done that a number of times.

You can use each contract to book whatever amount of days is possible and then link the reservations. This would not require a transfer. However a transfer might be necessary if you had only a small number of points left in each contract and needed points from each to equal a single night worth of points.

When buying resale if you purchase the same UY and have things titled identically (and that's even the order the names go on the deed) then DVC can just add it as a contract to your existing membership and useage of points will be relatively seamless. I've never had to contact MS personally about this - I've just let my resale agent know and was told they would include that information when they notified Disney.

Well that makes me feel a little better. I kind of bought this way so I could use my AKV points at 11month window to book conierge for a few days, then was goin to book another room at 7month window with my SSR points. I just wanted the 2 to be linked an dsince you say you have done that, then it will still work. I would just transfer any remaining points if I don't use them all with first ressie...

Thanks for giving me some hope here .... pixie dust for you pixiedust:

Your scenario is different than what I was referring to but I think you'll be ok although it's not going to work like I believe you think it might. Linking is only possible to do with a room that is at the exact same resort, same type and same view so in your case that would have to be an AKV concierge studio (I'm guessing) to another AKV concierge studio reservation. At this time linking is only done to allow you to stay in the same room without moving. And I'm guessing that you realize that getting a concierge room at 7 months isn't very likely so you do plan on changing rooms when you book the additional days at 7 months.

DVC has said that in the future members will have only one reservation number for their entire stay even if they change resorts - which sounds like what you want - but that's not possible today even if you booked the AKV concierge and the other room under one single contract.

Just to try and clarify let me ask why you you want to have separate reservations linked if they are for different rooms? (and again - it's not possible at anytime to do that currently).

Can you call your guide for a re-write (if thru Disney) or if resale, look at the cancellation policy...I believe it's 10 days under Florida law (someone else might know details).

Thanks for all the responses--I'll let the resale agent know to include the info and to title it the same way.

Sorry if I was confusing. What I meant was I want the 2 accounts linked under my existing membership... in other words, I can go online and check both accounts and their status, I can call up a CM to book a trip and say "book these days with this account and these days with this account", or I can go online at the 11month and book stay in concierge for x days and then at the 7 month, book new style room or even another resort .... that is the flexibility I was looking for and it sounds like it will work, just have to keep tabs on different banking/renting/transfer windows, etc.

We actually enjoy doing split stays, so I am very familiar with having 2 separate ressies, etc

Although, I could see a time where I might need to use points from both to book in a room at the 7 month window and would want them to be linked so I could stay in same room.... if we try to get to Aulani, we would need to do that.... so it would still be possible to book consecutive days in same room with both sets of points and just have them link the 2 ressies so we can stay in same room, right?

Thanks so much for all your insight, it is very helpful :goodvibes

Now I understand better. Yes, MS can set it up so that you only have one login for the website and you'll be able to see both of your UY's. When you make the reservation's from the different UY's you will have to have the CM switch to whichever UY you want them to book from though. It's not really a bother and sometimes all I've had to say is that I want to book xxx from my other membership after booking from the first one and they look it up. Sometimes they want the member number though.

And yes - for example the Aulani room, same size, same view etc. can just have reservations linked between the two UY's and then you don't have to change rooms. :thumbsup2
