Question RE: using dining credits for some diners only

I had bariatric surgery recently. Which means (despite my size) - a bowl of soup or small appetizer is all I'm going to be able to eat. We have the standard dining plan for our trip. Will we be able to pay out of pocket for my food and use the dining credits for the rest of the family? (I know I have to use them for buffets) Any feedback would be appreciated!
