Question re: SW resort check-in

We are flying SW and renting a car and not using ME because we are doing a US/IOA stay before heading to WDW. We will be at AKL CL on our last day at WDW and our flight does not leave until late afternoon. I am wondering, if we would decide to hit a park in the morning for a few hours, would we be able to check our luggage at the resort and send it off ahead of us without using ME? Or, would it be better to just have them hold our luggage and just pick it up before we leave for the airport? I have only flown to WDW one time in 1998 so this stuff is all new to me. Thanks

RAC is different than DME. So, yes, you can check your luggage ahead of time and then take your own transportation to the airport later in the day.
