Hi all

I am in the middle of organising my Intimate Wedding and as there will only be my fiance and I at the Wedding, I just realised that there will be no one there to act as witnesses, now as far as I know I always thought there had to be 2 witnesses to sign the Wedding Certificate. What does everyone else do in this circumstance? I just got my contract through from the reverand and it asks which 2 people will serve as witnesses. What do I do? :confused3

I'm pretty sure I've seen this question asked before and I think there was a bride whose EM acted as a witness as well as the photographer

When we got our license we were told that in Florida you do not need witnesses to sign the marriage certificate to make it legal. Rev. Jack asked us at the time who would sign and I just spur of the moment chose my brother and my best friend, but it is not necessary to make it legal. If you want to have witnesses, as sajetto said, your EM and photographer could sign, or even the violinist and person who serves the cake. No worries!

You don't need witnesses in Florida. :)

I freaked out recently when I went for my final dress fitting, and the seamstresses asked what my bridsmaids were wearing... well I said that I'm not having bridesmaids, and she gasped and nearly had a heart attack. She went on and on that thats the whole purpose of bridesmaids, to have them be witnesses and sign for you. Well, I panicked, and emailed my coordinator.. she just told me not to panic, you don't need witnesses in FL.
Since Disney does intimate weddings like this, with the bride and groom alone, I just initially assumed you didnt need them... and whaddya know? I was *right!*

as jandj said, you can have 2 witnesses but you dont have to. its not like the UK where you need to here.

I also heard that you dont need a witness, but then I have heard opposite.. So I guess that has answered your ? and mine.. lol

Its great to know that you don't actually need witnesses then as i assumed the laws would be the same as what they are in the uk. Think we may only have 1/2 guests & thats not even definate, so if it turns out to just be the 2 of us its good to know we won't have to find strangers to be our witnesses
