I recently started working from home for a firm 2 hours away, which would be long distance to call. I had to get a fax machine, which meant I had to get a home phone (DH and I have been using just our cell phones for a few years now). I will mostly be receiving faxes, but once in a while I may have to send a fax. I don't want to sign up for a long distance plan that I will only use once in a blue moon to fax something. The cheapest plan through my carrier is $4.95 per month and $0.5 per minute. Can I use one of those 10-10-220 type of things to fax long distance? If so, how would I do that? Thanks!

I use a 10-10 number to fax, if I have to fax outside of my carrier's discount hours.

You use it the same way you'd use it to make a phone call. You enter 10-10-whatever-the.number.you're.calling. Simple.

Thanks! Any idea what the best rate is for one of those? I've never used them before.

Hopefully someone in the US can answer - I'm in Canada so we have different numbers/companies.

I did check the one I use - YAK - and it appears they might operate in the US as well. Their website is www.yak.com . 5 cents a minute.
