Hi! I think we are going to buy the 200 point AKV add on which will give us 270 developer points. I have some questions I am hoping the moderators may answer:

We want to go Thanksgiving week 2008. I know you can only book with the Dev. points within 7 months and the chance of a 2 bedroom at AKV within 7 months of Thanksgiving is 0%!!!
1) Can I book with my AKV points at the 11 month window and change over to the dev points? I read that it was done but I am wondering if it will change the use year status?

If anyone knows this please help!

Thanks!!:confused3

You should be able to do it IF there is no waiting list for the 2 bedroom at AKV. If there is, to swap the points would give you 11 months reservation status with those points. Which you don't get.

technically yes you can do it as you describe here, with the key being:
MS wont (or are at least not supposed to) simply switch the points from regular AKV points to developer points.

what you are doing is cancelling your ressie with AKV points, then rebooking the room that was just opened by your cancellation with your developer points.

so you could lose it to a waitlist or you could also lose it to someone else who happens to be calling to book right at the time you are cancelling.

thats the way I understood it anyway when we were going to try . maybe you get a MS person who can bypass that

I called today to see about using our developer points for existing reservations (which I have over 160 points worth of between now and early April so we're within the 7 month booking window if they had to cancel and rebook). The Member Services guy checked with a supervisor and because my reservations were all made BEFORE I got the developer points, they were going to be able to reallocate those points for me - but they have to do it by sending over a form to inventory, etc., and it will take 4 - 7 business days for the transaction to happen and then another 7 - 10 days for me to get the confirmation.

Based on a previous post here this leads me to believe that I was only able to reallocate points because the reservations were made BEFORE the developer points were added to our account. I wanted to go ahead and "use up" our developer points so that I wouldn't forget about them since they don't show up on the website and also so I"ll be able to bank any points I won't use while I'm still able :)

When do developer points show up in your account? Will I be able to see them online?

No, they will not show up online at all.
Nor will you see a ressie made with dev points show up on your account online.
That is because the dev points have to be manually transferred into your account as you never really "own" them. (Well, thats one reason that I have heard.)

I'm in a similar situation, with one more wrinkle....

I made the call and was told it was in for processing and would take a week. My confusion was that I have a June use year and my banking deadline is the end of November. I questioned whether the points would be reallocated in time for me to bank the points. They indicated that we would now be under the new use rules and had until the end of January to bank. The website still indicates that the 100% banking deadline is the end of November. I know the website is not always accurate....should I call and ask again?

I didn't think you could bank developer points? I just used additional points to upgrade my GC reservation at Disneyland because I wouldn't be able to use them by Oct 30 any other way (and I will be at WDW on 11/1).

You're right, you can't bank the developer points, but when I reallocate the developer points to my April reservation, I can bank those points that are now unused.

I don't think you need to call again. Our understanding here on the DVC Forums is the same as what you were told by MS.

Well, a week and a half since my call to reallocate the points and they are still not reallocated. They assured me today that they would be done 'by the middle of next week". Apparently they are very backed up with entering paperwork. This CM indicated that I would have to bank by Nov 30. It's a bit confusing and I wish it was sorted out, but I'm sure that it will be. Just take a few more calls. I'll keep asking the banking question since I have some holding points that I want to use for a reservation starting Jan 30 and I can't book using them until Dec 1 (60 days). What luck that the banking deadline is the day before! I hope that the new rules apply but I can't get a consistent answer when I call.

I'm sure they will work it out...my points will get banked...etc etc
