question on Vero Beach & Hilton Head

We have been to Disney twice in the last few years. This year went to the beach in Destin FL nice & laid back had a great time. Im not sure if we are going to Disney again in August next year but came across the Vero Beach resort & Hilton Head. I have two younger kids ages 8 & 10. Would we be happy staying here and is there enough to keep the kids busy. Or would we just be better going to Disney since we are traveling around the same distance. I did look into Hilton Head which would have been closer for us (coming from NJ) but it was over $100 more per night to stay there if booking through Disney.
Are there any private owners who have rentals at Hilton Head that i could possibly get a better price than $374 per night and where would i find them if there is?
Again we would be going in August is any resort better than the other? HH would be great since it would be about 6-7 hours closer for us.

My kids are 8 & 12 but having been visiting HHI almost yearly since they were 2 & 6. They love it, we love it!! There is SO much to do on the island you can keep yourself as busy as you want or you can relax and play in the sand all day. Disney has loads of activities right at the resort both at the main area and the beach house area that the kids like to do, but the whole island is also filled with fun things to do. Because of school and sports schedules we only now do every other year trips to WDW, but almost every summer HHI is on the schedule as no one wants to skip it!

BTW, we also drive to HHI. We are in DE and it takes us anywhere between 11 to 12 hours to get there. We drive it all in one day, stay on the island at the local Hampton Inn and then check-in early to Disney's resort the next day.

thanks for the info! I know my husband wants to take a shorter drive next year so HHI would be great. The 20 hour drives to florida are a bit much year after year.
Do you book directly through Disney or are you dvc members?

Yes, we are DVC. If you are not, you may want to look into renting points and book that way.

You can also check the Birnbaum's Guide...they sometimes have a coupon code for 20% off certain nights at HHI and VB. It's probably blacked out in the summer, but can't hurt to try.
