Ok, I am giving a hypothetical situation here, only because I don't have points- yet.

Assume we have 150 pts with a Feb use yr. No banked or borrowed points.

When exactly do you need the points in order to reserve? So let's say I have used up my feb 2005 points, but want to make a reservation for April 06. When do I need the points in my account to make an April ressie? Would it be when I am making the ressie, or using the ressie?

Sorry, just trying to understand the system.

The simple answer to your question is you do not need points to make the reservations you only need the points in your account when you go to use them for the reservation. You an make your reservations up to 11 months out and do not need the points in your account to do so.

To help you understand, make a chart -

2005 use year points are for vacations falling between 2/1/2005 and 1/31/2006.
2006 use year points are for vacations falling between 2/1/2006 and 1/31/2007.
2007 use year points are for vacations falling between 2/1/2007 and 1/31/2008.
2008 use year points are for vacations falling between 2/1/2008 and 1/31/2009.
etc.

All of those points are already in your account. You can always make a reservation for your home resort 11 months prior to check out and at a non-home resort 7 months prior to check out. You just need to have points that will be valid for that stay.

For your example, you have no unused points in your 2005 use year.

An April 2006 vacation falls within your 2006 use year. Since you haven't used/committed any points for 2006 yet, you can call to make the reservation (for yor home resort) in May 2005. If you need more than 150 points for your April 2006 vacation, you can borrow them from your 2007 use year. MS would do this when you called in May to make the reservation. That means you would have less points to use for vacations in your 2007 use year (which goes from 2/1/07 - 1/31/08).

You would get "new" points on Feb 1- but I believe you can make a ressie using them before you actually get them- if you know what I mean. You could make an April 06 ressie 11 months ahead of time at your home resort or 7 at a non-home resort. So May 05 you could start reserving an April 06 stay and you would be using the Feb 06 points. You would be using your 06 points for the ressie even though you haven't gotten them yet.

Others can probably explain it better but I just wanted to get in a quick answer.

Thanks everyone, I actually thought you had to have the points available during your current use year even though you weren't going in that year. This helps a lot.

And BTW, I am wearing him down...(speaking of the hubby of course) He just told me that he likes the idea of Saratoga Springs because he is from that area in NY. DVC will be mine -- HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (evil laugh commences)

Think of it this way - all the points are already in your account for the remainder of your contract (2042 or 2054). They are not "deposited" when you use year starts. All you need to worry about which use year your stay is in and the points that are available for use on that date of stay (3 use years could be available - current year, banked year and borrowed year). This subject confuses most new members.
