We will be a party of 6 on our next vacation and I think we are going to do the DDP. My question is this, if we decide to leave our tip in cash how will they know if we leave the right amount. I would think since we are auto tip it would have to be paid right to the waiter and not left on the table. We would always tip whatever we were susposed to but I just wondered if everyone would or just how it worked. I know they will have the 18 & 20% figured out for you on the receipt but I just wondered if everyone was honest. What does everyone think they will do? I'm just a little nervous about getting charged wrong.

My understanding is that if your party is 6 or more (no matter how you are paying for the meal) or if you are using the Disney Dining Experience card, there will be a mandatory 18% "gratuity" added to your check. The calculations of 18% and 20% are only given for parties which do not fall under the mandatory gratuity.

So, if you are a party of six on DDP, you'll get two checks. One will be $0.00 and will show your remaining credits. The other will be for the 18% gratuity, and it will be a bill you are expected to pay.

Just like any other dining bill, whether you pay the bill in cash to the server, use a credit card, or bill it to the room, is your option.

I have a question. Can you purchase a Disney Gift Card say in the amount of $100 and use that to pay for the tip, and then continue to use the remaining balance to pay for tips as your vacation progresses? Also, are the 18% and 20% lines that are on the bottom of the receipts "suggested amounts" for a tip? Thank you!

Yup, that would work just fine. TO be 100% honest, the easiest route for both you and server is just to have room charging abilities.

Being a party of 6, the 18% will be included in the bill. Just to illustrate it...

Food: 100
Tax: 6
Grat: 18%
----------
Total: $124

I am so glad I found this thread!! We will be on the DlxDDP. Somehow I didn't realize that parties of 6 will have to pay a mandatory 18% tip. I was trying to figure out how much cash I should bring to set aside for tips, but I guess I won't need to do that.
