Question on staying at other wdw resorts?

Is there a way to use points at other wdw resorts not part of the dvc? If so, how many points does it take?

Yes it is and the points vary. There is a list of the points needed on the DVC website and in the Hand Book.. It will depend on the time of year you're going.

It is not very "cost-effective" to do so though...

I would recommend renting your points and paying cash (and using a AP code if possible) for the stay at a non-dvc resort.

There's a note that the charts are not updated for 2005, they are a little higher. If you are a member, there is a calculator on the member website.

As BostonDisneyKid said it is not very cost effective. For example, the Polynesian garden view during value season is 35 points for Sun-Thurs and 63 points for Fri-Sat (2005 points using the member site). Rack rate (regular price) is $339 including tax. You could get a 2 bedroom at one of the DVC resorts for a little less points.

You can use points at any WDW resort except the Value resorts or any resort which also has an included DVC resort (WL, BW, BC)

For 2005, points per night range from a low of 15 pts (Weekday, Standard View, Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, or Port Orleans), Value Season (Jan 1-Feb 16, Aug 28-Sep 28, and Oct 30-Dec 19), to a high of 173 pts for one night at the GF, Concierge, weekend night, Holiday Season (Dec 20-Dec 31).

For each resort below, the 1st number is the lowest point (weekday, lowest room view, value season) and the 2nd number is the highest point (weekend, highest category room offered, holiday season). All other combination are in between.

AKL: 29/128
Ft. Wilderness cabin: 27/68
CB, CS, and PO: 15/43

You can pretty much bet that for 2006 the points will be higher.
