Question on borrowing

Instead of giving generic examples will give a real world example.

For 2008 June Use Year we have already borrowed all but 3 points for a vacation with friends in May of 2008. However we are taking a new years cruise through DCL in December of 2008/2009. We are thinking about staying onsite either 1-2 days before the cruise. I obviously don't have enough in my 2008 Use Year to book two nights but can I only borrow from my June 2009 Use Year in June 2008? Normally this wouldn't worry me but since we would need to book XMAS day and the day after I know this puts in a bit of a crunch if I don't call for my home resort 11-months out.

Thoughts? Am I right to think I cannot borrow from 2009 points until June 2008?

Good question, but if I understand the rules correctly it goes by the time you travel. So if your travel falls with in your june 08 UY then you can borrow from the 09 allotment for that trip.

You should be able to borrow the needed points right at 11 months - even if it's prior to the start of your Use Year. The reservation is based on the points available at the time of the stay rather than the date the reservation is being made.

Don't confuse rules about when you can make reservations with rules about when you can use points.

Your 11 and 7 month windows dictate when you can make reservations (borrowing points is an offshoot of making reservations).

Use Years dictate when you can use points. They don't come into play regarding when you can make reservations (and borrow points).

All that is required is that you will have points that you can use at the time of your trip. You don't need to have points you can use at the time of the reservation.
