Are the toilets at WDW automatic flushing toilets? Mt poor DD is TERRIFIED of them... what can I do???

Not sure about the toilets at WDW, but the easiest and most reliable solution is to bring post-it notes in your purse. You stick one over the LED "eye" and your DD can go about her business at her leisure. It won't flush until you peel off the post-it note.

Hope that helps! Sure beats having a panicked, peeing toddler climb up you when spooked by an impromptu flush!:lmao:

Post-its are a great idea... as long as I can convince her that neighboring potties that flush aren't hers! She had a full meltdown today b/c she was afraid that the potty at the bookstore was going to flush on her!

Post-its are a good idea. I've no memory as to whether or not they are auto-flush, though I'm sure some are.

I just wanted to share that I am not particularly fond of them myself. I've had ones flush on me while going, and it is not especially a fun experience... most especially when they are ones that are like hyper-flush and they spritz water on you, . I can't imagine being just 6 and having that happen! I was never a fan of public toilets, and when I was that age I would literally just hold it forever!

The pottys at the baby care center's in MK and Epcot are not "terror potties"!

They were the only ones my DD would use.

the potties are automatic flushing and they are loud and forceful. My DH was terrified of them and I wished I knew about the post it notes when we went. Not sure how much they would have helped since there is always a potty flushing.

We have new potties at work that I call bidets, because they splash so much, you get a free cleaning..:cool1:
However, I have to wonder how sanitary it is to have all that water splashing about ..

Why don't you take her to the bookstore again and show her how the post it notes work. Let her put them over the eye and pull them off so she feels in control. You could even draw a Mickey head on the post it note for fun.

Edited to add: I sort of assumed that the book store potties were automatic flushing but upon reading it again, I'm not sure. I meant to do this if they are autoflush. It wouldn't make much sense otherwise!

how old is she? if she is young enough that you go into the stall with her, just hold your hand over the sensor while she is going and after she gets up, dressed etc... then allow her to exit the stall before you remove your hand. the toilet will not flush until you remove your hand. id did this for my dd until she got past the fear.

That's what I was going to suggest. I always end up covering the sensor until the kids are done. They're all terrified of the auto flush toilets. Obviously, the invention of someone who never had to take kids into a public restroom.;)

We spent our son's first trip to Disneyland trekking back to the Pinnochio bathrooms because they were the only ones without auto-flush. I feel your pain. :)

My DD has the same terror! Post-its, or magic paper as we call it, do not work for my DD. She's seen the horror of the automatic flusher and no assurances that she will not be sucked away will appease her!

So, we learned the hard way that the potty inside Cinderella's castle is not automatic.

Neither is the one inside the sit down restaurant in Canada (the name escapes me now.)

Good to know that the ones by Pinnochio and in Baby Care Centers are "safe."

My youngest has a fear of public restrooms too. I do use the post its as its hard to cover the eye and hold her hand like she wants me to at the same time.

The baby care center at MGM has a really cute tiny potty.:thumbsup2

Even at his age??? :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

How silly do I feel?? :rotfl2: DD also feared these, my first reaction? Jumped behind her (fully clothed - just straddled) :rotfl2:

Well as she got older she thought it was hysterical that I would straddle the toilet seat so she could pee... it took me a few visits to realize she was :rotfl2: at me!!

fun memories now tho, dagnabit they grow too fast!!

(and the things we do for our kids! )

I agree with this! We planned our potty breaks around this place! Our boys were 4 and 3 the last time we went and we may use them again this next time at ages 5 and 4. They are so much quieter in general and clean.

DD3 was afraid too. We just played with one for about 10 minutes and she got over it. I will remember the hand over the eye though, that's a great tip if the issue comes up again.
Thanks for the little potty advice. When my oldest was 3 and needed to poop she could just not relax on the huge potty so I had to let her sit on my lap at the MK. Not my finest moment. It's great to know there are other options for my youngest now. I bought a travel seat for the hotel that fits on the potty but don't want to carry that around.

Oh, that's great about the Baby Care Centers-- that should be a big help! I feel so bad for the poor thing... she gets seriously freaked out! And she's only 2y5m... so the flushing potty is a SUPER SCARY thing!
