I have a question about modifying a reservation with Alamo. When I booked it, I thought I needed a week plus one extra day (7 hours actually). I have now booked our flight, turns out I don't need the few extra hours. I am now picking it up 2 hours later than planned and will drop off before the weekly rate ends.

I got a great deal on the rental, $118 base weekly rate, $18.15 extra day. If I were to book it again today, it is a lot more. Can I go in and modify the ressie to get rid of the extra day and still have my $118 base rate? I am afraid if I modify it, it will now be a much higher rate. Or do I just leave it alone and pay the extra $18?

When you modify the reservation, it will display the current price for your rental. You have the choice of accepting the modified reservation or keeping your original reservation. If your price changes dramatically, don't accept the modified ressie, I suggest calling and talking to an agent. We've only rented cars twice and both times our flights changed which caused our car rental times to change. Once with Alamo and once with National. Both times the agent changed our reservations and we were able to keep the original price. I just felt better knowing our reservations reflected the correct pick up/drop off times.

You might try and call as mentioned BUT be prepared that you are changing the terms of your original booking. Car rentals are cheaper by the week than by the day. If you return it before the week time you can and probably will be charged a rate different than what you book. That quote is based on the times you gave and if you change the time, they have every right to change the rate. Some might say just return the car early and don't change the times, but once again...they will see an early return and can change the rate because of it not being a full week. This is discussed often on flyertalk and fatwallet travel. People get mad when they are charged more, but they need to remember they are changing the terms of agreement.

I tried to change a pickup time recently and rate went up substantially. Keep checking rates though because they do go down. I book/rebook often but make sure I cancel any old reservations.
