I'm about to make you all faint, gasp, or maybe just laugh. All of our trips to WDW have been planned by booking everything individually. This was the only way to get the accommendations we wanted (I thought). Now my question................can I make ressies first, then call back later if a code for a lesser amount becomes available for the same reservation ? How to use these codes really confuses me.

We have done that several times. Just go ahead and make your reservation... and if/when the codes come out then just call back for an adjustment. ;)

Yes - we've done it a couple of times and it worked just fine. You shouldn't have a problem. I have heard some folks say that CRO wouldn't let them do this. I think if you get a CM who disputes this procedure, just say "thank you" and hang up and call back to get someone who knows what they're doing.

I don't do it anymore because lately I've found I can wait until the codes come out to book. It doesn't seem like the rooms are booking up like they use to. I'd rather not go through the hassle of calling back and getting the rate changed with a code if I can avoid it.

You'll be able to get the discounted rate, assuming it's available. It's not automatic, but frequently works out great.
