My wife and I are going to Universal for a couple of days in October and we would really like to attend HHN as well. I understand that if you purchase a regular park ticket you can also 'add on' to it the HHN experience for a considerable less amount of money than if you had just purchased a ticket to HHN by itself.

I believe this is called "Stay and Scream". However, when I try to purchase 2 park to park tickets I do not see the "Stay and scream" option listed as an 'add on'.

I'm just confused on how to purchase this option. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you,
-Eric

Hi Eric,

My husband I go to HHN at Universal every year. What they are referring to as the Stay and Scream add on ticket. When you gain admission into the park, there are booths set up (or at Guest Relations) where you can upgrade your ticket for example (29.99 not sure what this year's price will be). So when guests are leaving at 5:00pm, you can stay in the park (Universal usually has a designated area) where you can wait until you can enter the haunted houses earlier than the guests paying at the door after hours. We usually go to Finnegan's and have an adult beverage while we wait.

You might also want to get the express pass as well if you are going on a weekend night. Some lines can be 75-90 minutes long and you won't be able to see all of the houses (around 8 of them) in one night.

It is worth every penny. We love it. We'll be there again this year.

Check www.halloweenhorrornights.com and you can purchase both tickets at the same time.

so let me get this right...

You have to buy a park ticket and one of the HHN tickets? How does it work if you stay on site? Do you get FOTL at all the haunted houses?

HHN is a hard ticket event...just like MNSSHP is a hard ticket event so you will need a separate ticket for HHN. Onsite perks do not extend to HHN so you will not receive unlimited Express access for HHN...that's only during regular park hours. If you want Express access, you will have to purchase an EP like everyone else.

the 3 onsite hotels state in their literature that the hotel key does not allow express lines usage for HHN.
they have been doing this for some years now so hotel guests don't assume they have free express line usage for hhn.

like Metro West stated, you would need to buy the express pass to use the express lines during hhn.

it's a one time only usage per ride/house/show.

Staying onsite grants you unlimited Express during the day (normal hours) and preferred access to HHN (if you didn't stay & scream) from 6-8. It has no use otherwise for HHN.

Thanks for the link re purchasing tix. Question! I was thinking of purchasing my park tix using my airmiles. Can I add the HHN upgrade once I am in the park, at for instance the (I think it was) $36.99 for a Sun - Thurs? Otherwise it looks like I'd have to pay the $89.99 because I am not also buying a day's tix.

Yeah...you should be able to get the HHN ticket at the S & S discount. It doesn't matter where you purchased your theme park ticket.

do buy the hhn ticket once you are in the park and do not wait until 4:45 that day to do so.

the line will be very long if you wait until the end of the park day to add on the hhn ticket.

all you do is show a day ticket and you can buy the s & s one.

if you are going to be in the park a few days prior to hhn, you can buy the add on then.
you do not have to wait until the day of hhn to buy the hhn tix.

everyone loves to help when it comes to HHN.

i'm completely and totally addicted to it.

hhn hardcore...

So wondering what some of you regular HHNers would suggest:

Husband, son (17) and I will be at the parks oct 24-28 (wed-sun) we're planning on HHN wed and/or thurs so crowds are less....Do you think it's better to go 2 nights with no express pass or go one night with the express? I haven't seen express pass prices yet so not sure of the costs.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom and opinions. :)

Unfortunately you are going during Hell Week which is when local schools are on break and HHN is flooded with high school kids. It won't matter which night you go since the crowds will be close to the same but I would strongly suggest purchasing Express for at least one night. If money is an issue, skip Express and go two nights.

If you can take advantage of Stay & Scream you will only help yourselves by beating the general public to the houses. S & S people are released at 6pm whereas the general public isn't allowed into the park until 6:30pm at the earliest. You can easily do three or four houses w/o too much of a wait so you could skip buying Express. You will need to be inside the park before the 5pm closing to do S & S and with the crowds that week, it's important to skip the long line out front.

I'm not surprised the kids are out of school, that's why we picked those dates so no choice really. We will be able to utilize S&S. We'll be in the parks and staying on property. We were originally planning to do 2 nights of HHN (with only S&S) but I've been wondering if we'll need the express to get the most enjoyment. Maybe we should just do s&s the first night, and and then decide if we want to purchase express passes for the next night?

any idea how much express passes cost per person?

express pass costs have not been released yet.

could be mid to late july when they are.

last year i purchased mine in August.

you could always buy the express pass that night while at hhn unless they are sold out.

that doesn't happen that often though.

I love these boards! I was thinking of going only one night and getting an express passs, but after reading this thread, the idea of going 2 nights without express pass is sounding like a good idea.

We will be there Oct 10-12, and HHN is on the 11&12 that week. Do you experts think this is a good plan? 2 nights without ep instead on one night with ep? Will we be able to see all the houses if we do s&s both nights?

Another related question- do people on these boards give advice on which order to do the houses to have the greatest chance to see all the houses?

I am so excited! My family knows we are going, and what we are doing, but since they do not go on these boards they really have no idea what a great time they are in for!

Two nights w/o Express is a good plan. Just make sure to do the houses missed the first night on the second night so you can see everything.

I think everyone does the houses differently. I go to the S & S house and then do the ones closest next. We need to see where everything is this year before doing any plans but I'm going opening night and will be able to share my experience soon after.

Thanks for the advise. I'll stick with the original plan of both Wed and Thurs night w/o express passes.

Metro West: Can't wait to hear about your first visit at HHN this year !!!!!
