I have banked with Chase for fourteen years. I never had a problem with them. I do alot of banking at the ATM. When Chase switched the ATM machine to no envelopes just put your cash right in I have had nothing but problems. A few bills will not go through. Usually a five or a ten. So after a couple of attempts of trying to get the machine to accept the bills the machine has shut down with my money in it. This has happened at least six times in the last month. I have reported it everytime. So today I use my debit card and find out Chase has closed my checking account because of the claims I have made on the ATM. They are saying they credit me my deposit but they really don't know if the money is there???? We are talking 30.00, 40.00, dollars. Not 500.00, or a thousand. I have been so upset about this I had to vent. Just wondering if anyone has experienced a problem with money going into the ATM?,

I'm sorry you've had such problems.

I haven't had any of those problems with the new ATMs. Well, the credit union ATM that's just like those refused our IRS refund, I assume b/c of the heavy watermarking. So I walked it down to Chase and deposited it there in person (the CU wasn't actually open), figuring that their machine wouldn't take it either.

I would go into Chase and talk with them. Surely they have noticed that they HAVE had the money you put in there, and talking with a human might help them understand the problems.

IF you get your account back, if you have a problem with one bill, just take that bill out, put the rest of it in as a deposit, finish that transaction, and then try a new transaction with the problem bill. Banks are very suspicious of errors during deposits, as you have just found out...best to not tie up the rest of your money by trying to continue with the one transaction.

We've installed those ATMs at a couple of our branches and have that problems from time to time. It is odd that they can't find their money though. In every situation that a bill or check was misread we were able to reconcile the machine and put the money into the correct account, and we are way smaller than Chase. The machines are balanced to the dollar every business day and money that is unaccounted for is placed into the correct account. There are also logs for the misreads and if there is any question there is time stamped video from cameras inside the machine that our audit or security personnel can check.

I'm having a MAJOR issue with Chase right now related to yours. Yesterday I deposited $1,265 in cash into their ATM. It, too, "shut down" and spit out a receipt that said "ATM temporarily out of service." I called the number on the receipt and was told that they would credit my account and it should be there in 1 business day (today). This morning, I checked my account and it was not there. I called again, and was told that it processed on their end, and it should be in my account. The customer service rep then informed me that she'd route this to her supervisor, he'd send me an email with an update, and the cash would be in my account within the hour. Well, guess what? An hour and a half later, no email and no money. I called back a third time only to be told something completely different by another rep --since my account was "new," it would take 5 days for them to research my claim and post the credit. By this point I was livid. Not only are they holding my money hostage, but they told me erroneous information and made no attempt to let me know that once they realized that had occured. After getting routed to HIS supervisor, I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do, and that it was "my choice if I wanted to cancel my account" (which I had informed him I'd be doing as soon as I got my damn money back).

After this, I basically ran to the branch where the incident occurred and spoke with a personal banker, who in turn got on the phone and was told the same BS by their customer support center. She then roped-in the branch's VP, who became just as angry (if not more) than me at how this was being handled. Finally, this guy's making things happen -- an ATM vendor is supposed to show up this afternoon and reconcile the machine. Once it shows the overage, my account will be credited.

Great customer service by the branch, but an inexcusable, and frankly, appalling, mismanagement of my claim by their call center. Bottom line -- don't use Chase's ATMs to deposit funds, and if you have an issue, go directly to the branch where it occurred. Even better, cancel your account and take your business to a local credit union or bank that actually treats their customers like people. That's what I'll be doing this afternoon.

I've always been wary of using ATMs for deposits and generally avoid it. It seems risky.
