We are going again to WDW Sept 29-Oct6 for free dining. Here's my concern. We have only gone to WDW in December in Dec or January. We don't do heat very well. DW get all red in the face (as does DS7).

Obviously-- drink lots of water, take breaks, wear hats, etc.

But, never having lived anywhere with heat or humidity (we live at 8,500 ft elevation on the flanks of Pikes Peak), I have no idea about clothes. OK shorts-- Tshirts , but what kind of fabrics? I generally wear a cotton tee shirt under all my shirts-- Will I die? Is cotton good or bad in humidity? I would think it would get damp and stick to you like Aunt Gertie at your sister's wedding reception.

:confused3 :confused3

Wear lightweight, light colored clothing.

I also have little fans that I got for $1 at Target, they have a keychain clip on them. Everyone in the party gets one at breakfast on day one - helps when there's no breeze.

Yep, like you said - drink lots of water. You can also break-up your day by hitting inside attractions.

We also like to take a quick dip in the pool at the end of the day to cool off before the evening (a cool shower will do the same)

Have fun! :sunny:

I wear mostly the loose fitting Under Amour , Nike Dry-fitor Addidas Coolmax shirts as they pull the moisture away but keep you cool as well and they are lighter then Cotton t's when wet.

For shorts I wear board shorts as again they are light and dry fast when wet.

Bucket hats mostly as you can wet then down and they will keep your head cool.

Last I did the Keen sandle shoes this trip and they were great kept them on in the waterparks and all.

DW & DD most of the same but throw in some cotton tanks and Croc's ( Veg, Jr's)for shoes.

We do EMH park until about 11:00 or noon then hit the pool or waterpark until about 4 :00 then back to another park for the night.

Cotton takes the moisture and keeps it inside the fabric, so if you're worried about it getting damp and sticky then yes, cotton is bad. You need a better fabric for sure. I wear a lot of microfiber, that stuff waves and dries pretty fast. The coolmax stuff that people are talking about is suppose to be really good as well. It's suppose to wick the moisture away from you, instead of keeping it on you.

Yeah--go with some quick dry fabric for shirts. I like to wear tropic wear pants from LLBean. Sunscreen built right in. very lightweight. I wear the capris. They dry pretty quickly if you get caught in rain or go on water rides. I also usually wear a long sleeved tropic wear shirt (button down) over a tank or quick dry tee. I wear quick dry undergarments as well. Champion.com has some nice mesh ones. You would be surprised what a difference they make. Of course, guys can wear swim suits with the built in underwear. Oh--and a big hat. I have a Tilley. Love it.

Light and loose fitting. I like cotton or linen. Large brim hats. Lots of sunblock. Those nifty little fans with the water mister are nice. Drinks lots and lots of fluid. I usually bring an insulated sports bottle and Crystal Light ToGo packets. (make them in the room with ice before you go to parks) A litlle siesta in the afternoon at the hotel or pool helps to avaoid the worst of the heat.

There's a popular thread floating around on this board about how to beat the heat at WDW. It's probably a page or two back, check it out! :thumbsup2

I got a shirt like the under armour / coolmax, it's that quick drying breathable stuff, very ; lightweight short sleeve. I wear it Mountain Biking here, so something like that would be great. I got mine at Dick's Sporting Goods, most outdoor stores have it. I usually just wear cargo shorts or those light weight nike shorts, I like the lightweight fabrics.

Dress like you are going to the beach.

And I can't stress the importance of water. Hydrate or die . The Camelbak is easier to handle then a bulky water bottle.

Here are some "non-clothing" tips for keeping cool at WDW.

Ice water/cups of ice are FREE at all snack stands that serve Coke. This is filtered differently than drinking fountain water and it's good, I'm a bottled water drinking and I was pleased.

There are lots of rides/attractions with a/c. Plan to go to one of those if you are overheating from an outdoor line on the last ride.

Shops have a/c. The shops near the entrances to MK and MGM are interconnected and have a/c so walk through them and beat the heat for a few minutes.

Plan a TS lunch, or head to a CS with indoor seating at lunch.

Get to the parks early, go back to the resort to swim/shower/rest and head back to the park in the evening for some more rides and nighttime parades/shows.
