I am sorry if this has been asked before, but I could not find anything with a few searches. I am considering adding onto a stay this summer. We're trying to reserve three days at a resort, but there is only one day available out of the three I am looking to book. How is the best way to proceed with this. Should I just waitlist for the entire three days, or book the one available and wait list the other two. If I do this, can MS combine the reservation if the two days come through. It would be in the same room type/view category, etc. I just don't want to have to check out after one day due to the separate reservation.

Also I have heard different ways of doing this. Should I wait list each day separately, of the two I need, so as one day opens it's added on? I would only do this if we can be assured to not switch rooms every day. Hope this makes sense. I think I've only waitlisted for something a few times over the years we've been members and have never had this situation before.

If I were you, I would book the one day that is available and make 2 separate waitlists for each of the remaining days.

I would also check the Resort Availability Took multiple times per day and fill your own waitlist if one of the needed days pops up as available.

I have filled my own waitlists by checking the RAT more times than I have had DVC fill my waitlist :)

Thanks for the advice. If I get all three days like this, will Member services combine the reservation so it will look like one reservation for MDE purposes and also so we don't have to check in and out three times? Sorry if this is a dumb question, just never had to do this before.

Yes. They will probably even do it without you asking. But you can ask and they will.

You will have better luck if you check daily yourself. Waitlists are not run throughout the day.

Thanks, I will do that. Now that we're planning the trip, I find myself checking a couple of times a day... :)

I do exactly what was described above. I would book the one day and waitlist the other two separately. I would also stalk the site multiple times a day to try to fill it on your own. If you get lucky and everything comes together, MS will merge the reservation for you.

Good luck!!

I'm pretty sure waitlists are run real-time now. I cancelled five days last night, and only one showed up as available afterwards.

They are (at least sometimes). I had a room booked under one membership and waitlisted under another. When I cancelled it, my other account grabbed it right away.

I don't know if something changed recently, or I just had bad luck, but twice I had reservations that should have automatically combined, they did not, and when I asked, the MS rep I got told me he couldn't do it, and made a big deal about having to get a supervisor to do it. I said yes, please do that. Never had an issue in the past. But if you get a rep that says it can't be done, press him/her to get a supervisor.

Wouldn't it be nice if DVC would share this information with it's customers! Maybe it would reduce the calls to MS, saving some money.

Hopefully it's okay to ask this question on this thread. I am a newbie DVC member. I just waitlisted an entire stay because my first night out of 5 nights was unavailable. The other 4 nights are available but I have to wait until tomorrow to book as I am right at the 7 month mark. Do I book the other 4 nights and then change my waitlist to just the one day? I was afraid that tomorrow morning the next few days might disappear. Is the waitlist an all or nothing deal?

Yes, it's all or nothing. That's why it's better to get what you can and then waitlist the rest. A couple of years ago, I pulled together a 5 night BWV pool/garden studio at about 2 months out for November. None of the 5 nights were available. I waitlisted all 5 nights. Then I saw nights 4 & 5 on the website, booked it and changed the waitlist to nights 1 to 3. Then I saw nights 2 & 3 on the website, booked them and changed the waitlist to night 1 only. About a week later, at 27 days before check-in, that waitlist filled. MS automatically combined the reservations into one.

They already filled one of my two waitlisted days this morning. I think they must be filling the openings as they come. The email notifying me I got the day came at 1002 this AM. One down and one to go!!

How can walking a reservation avoid the possibility of having to go the wait list path ?
