Hi all,

We recently added a 50 point contract at BCV to supplement our SSR contract. My question relates to booking a reservation using points from both.

We'd like to stay Sunday through Friday at BCV and are trying to decide whether it makes most sense to book the first three nights at BCV with the last two at SSR now and then hope we can switch the last two days to BCV after the 7 month window opens or to only make the BCV reservation now and hope the waitlist comes through after 7 months using the SSR points (basically not having the SSR room as a back-up).

How do the rest of you handle this type of situation?

Thanks!

I would book the nights at SSR and then switch. I don't own at SSR, for me, it's been booking BWV and then switch.

What you could do, is 7 months from the first check out day, try to switch the first day from BCV points to SSR points and on that day book the 4th day of the trip with the freed up BCV points, and do the same on the next day, then, you have the 5 day ressie as soon as you can.

I've never tried that, and it would only work if the days ARE available for other rebooking, but if the time you wanted was a high use BCV time, that's what I would try to do. What we did was add on more to our BCV add on points, so we can book our 5 days. :goodvibes I will have to switch our guests over to BCV, but if they're at BWV, they are not that far away.

Thanks Bobbi!

You actually brought up a great point I hadn't thought of. If we book 3 nights using the BCV points, can we switch those nights to our SSR (if available) after the 7 month window and get our BCV points back? It sounds like a lot of work but since we only have a few BCV points, we were thinking we would only have the priority booking window every other year unless this might be possible.

To my knowledge, you would not be able to just switch to using your SSR points at the 7-month window as that would defeat the 11-month advantage.

What you could do is borrow BCV points to complete your BCV vacation, but realize that borrowed points cannot be put back into their original UY.

I'm saying that at 7 months IF the first night is available for other points, not a waitlist, you cancel it and use the SSR points to book it. You cannot switch if there's a waitlist, but if it's available for everyone to book you can book the night you already have with SSR points and use the BCV points to book the next, 4th night.

Thanks, that is what I meant to say.

Now, if I originally had 3 nights on 1 reservation, would I be able to just cancel one of those nights or would I need to have separate day by day reservations to try to do this?

Thanks again for all the help!

I don't know for sure, but I have changed the first night of a reservation. I think you can just cancel a day at a time, and in the end, you would have the first three days booked on a day by day basis, and the last two days would also have been booked day by day.

i have 3 resorts.
what i've done: i used all my remaining BWV points to book the 1st part of the week (inc sunday, b/c it always seems to sell out). used my BCV points to book the balance of nights at BCV.
called day by day at the 7 month mark to switch each of the BCV nghts over to BWV (not always easy, some nights i still had to waitlist, but eventually all came thru:thumbsup2 )
what i really need to do is sell my BCV points use that to buy more BWV points already!! :sad2: lol

Thank you so much! Sounds like I need to get organized and stay on top of when to make those phone calls!

Thank you all for the help!

Yes and no. IF the nights are still available you would actually get a new reservation for BCV using your SSR points, cancel the first day of your existing BCV reservation then add the additional day on the end 3 days before the 7 month window opens up. Some may argue that it violates the intent of the home resort window but I would not if andy only if the room were still available anyway. The other option would be to bank and borrow to get enough points to reserve at the 11 month window. If the OP doesn't get any days they want, they should wait list each day individually on the phone call where they are denied.

That is definitely what you need to do.:thumbsup2

I have 2 memberships with 3 different resorts. And believe me there is more planning involved than you think. I would suggest when you call to make the ressies, that you let them know what you want to do. Sometimes they will have a better way of doing it than you. However, sometimes you may get ones who are new to the MS and do not know exactly how to handle it so you need to make sure you have your plan laid out first and which points from which resorts you want to use (and in my case which membership to take it from). I am getting the hang of it now, but it was very tricky and planning and organization will go a long way. In most cases, MS will know what you want to do and there's no problem, they will tell you the best way to do it without you having to go over each step. However, believe me, it is very important to know exactly what you want. And one more very good advice is that when all is done and they give you the points left for each of your resort/membership, make sure it is correct. This will let you know that they have done exactly what you wanted. And what I like to do after I call is go online and check under "view vacations" and make sure it's correct.

I hope you don't mind the suggestions. I wished I had gotten some advice when I first had my add ons. Good Luck.
