How long after your teeth were pulled did you place your plate?

I have heard contradicting opinions on this- from immediate to a few weeks.

I will have to go this route this spring, as these baby teeth that are now almost 30 years old are no longer rebuildable. Did you go bottom and top together, or space them out?

I have a consult with the oral surgeon in 2 weeks, to discuss that part of this procedure. That hurts worse than the thought of paying for it to be honest!

Thanks and any advice- greatly appreciated

my mom got dentures really young because of an infection. She said that you normally have to wait for the swelling to go down before getting the permanent dentures.
Now she has a full set of implant instead of dentures. Are implants an option for you?

The integrity of my jaw bones is questionable, I've had 2 dentists tell me they did not think my bones could handle it, and 1 that said he did. I decided to go with the 2 that said not too...I'd rather have implants, but I dont want the pain of the surgery to only find out that my jaw's cant sustain the implants..

If I had 3 that said I could- I'd slap it on my platinum card in a HEARTBEAT!

A good friend of mine went thru this about a year or so ago. She got a temporary denture (she said it was under $100) that went in immediately. It didn't have back teeth, but had I don't know, 6 or 8 front teeth.

She wore it for about half a year until the swelling went down, then she went and got a permanent one.

She did have to have that temp one adjusted a time or two though because she said she was REALLY swelled at 1st, but during that initial 6 months, lots of changes were made. She also said those adjustments were free.

That's the way I'd go if I were in that situation.

My dentist has told me that I will receive my immediate dentures the day my teeth are pulled. Then after about six months (to allow for gum shrinkage), I will receive my permanent dentures. I am hoping to eventually have implants done and then the denture affixed to the implants.

I have a top plate of dentures due to weak teeth and a couple to serious hits from my ex husband.

I received an immediate temp denture, then went back in about 3 months and did a new impression and had them refitted.

Don't be surprised if you go through a small bout of depression after you get the teeth. It is somewhat difficult to learn how to eat with them, plus the discomfort and swelling. Most people that I know, especially younger people with dentures, get depressed for a very short period of time. I was stunned when I looked in the mirror for the first time without my teeth in. I was swollen, bruised and couldn't eat a dang thing. It was hard because I was so young, yet felt like an old lady. If at all possible, take a short leave of absence from work to give you time to adjust to them and your new look!

I've got partials (upper and lower). They pulled my lower teeth first, waited 2 weeks for the swelling to go down, made the mold, and I had my denture a week later. Then did the same thing with my upper. After a few months they did start to feel a little loose and were adjusted a bit, but food still got under the dentures where the gums had receded more. This year I had a couple more teeth that had to come out, and got the new dentures within 2 weeks of the teeth being pulled (I was able to wear my old ones while waiting even tho it left a gap where the teeth were missing). The new one fits much better, since the majority of my mouth was without swelling when they made the mold.
