:) Hi all,
Just curious - those of you who wear eye glasses which rides do you remove them for if any? I have been to WDW before but haven't done any of the real "thrill" rides except BTMR and SplashM. I'm curious about things like RNR, MS, or EE. I'm very near sighted and would hate to lose my glasses at Disney. Also where do you store them if you do remove them? TIA :sunny: !

My DH always takes them off (or just wears contacts) and hands them to me!! :rotfl: I end up putting them in our backpack or fanny pack and he puts them back on after the ride. Of course, sometimes he just holds them in his hand.

I do not remove them at all. I use an athletic strap that keeps them tightly bound to my head whenever I'm getting on a slightly crazy ride.

90 % of the time i take them off and put them in hubby's shirt pocket or a little bag i take...

however it kind of dulls the experience not being able to see( ;) ) and so last time i left them on a few times and they didn't fall off or even move...I'd get them all tightened up just before i go ( mine were new)so they are snug but on most things you probably could hold them on with one hand if you needed to.. and i don't think they would fall off any way unless it was loops or something ( me=wishful thinking maybe) or maybe get one of those strap things but i look goofy enough already so maybe one of those fake pearl eyeglass necklaces grade school librarians always seem to wear :teeth: so even if they fall, you won't loose them, awwww the pictures that would make :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ( no offense to any grade school librarians)

Hey Valerie,
I wear glasses also. I actually don't taken them off very often. I was fine on EE & MS. When I go to the water parks I pop in my contacts (Is that a possible option for you) so I don't have to worry about losing them. I always carry a fanny pack or small shoulder back that I keep an eye glass case in, usually they have my sunglasses in them.

This year I'm going to try the transition lens, so maybe I won't have to switch back and forth from sunglasses outside to regular glasses inside.

I am extremely near-sighted and cannot tolerate contact lenses.
I (a female) wear the elastic athletic strap to hold my glasses firmly on my face. They come in all colors, and I even have the WDW croakies style.

My daughter and I wear them on everything and never had a problem. If you are concerned you may want to invest in a cheap pair of backup glasses from Zenni Optical or 39dollarglasses.com to wear in the parks.

Me too, and I have never had a problem. Even on rides at other parks that are much more 'wild' than the ones at DW. Nothing against the DW rides, I love 'em.

I use the strap as well. You can get them cheap at walmart. At water parks I just don't wear the glasses. I just walk around blindly.

DH wears glasses and usually will put them in the camera bag/back pack on rides he thinks could tossle his glasses a bit...this year it was just RNR...he wore them on the rest of the WDW rides. Having said that, it is usually a good idea - if possible - to take an extra pair if you have them. We went to MI Adventure two years ago and DH thought he could ride the roller coaster w/o incident...got to the top of the biggest hill and right before he went down his glasses just flew off of his head and right over the car and onto the track...he fortunately had his old pair in the car.....would have made for a very boring rest of the trip if he had not had those with him...

I wear glasses on all the rides. In fact, my last pair of had sides on it like sunglasses (oakleys) and I never had a problem with them falling off at all. Remember that your glasses will be experiencing the same down force on them that you will be on a ride, so it isn't all that likely that they will fall of in a roller coaster style ride, and definitely not M:S.

My suggestion: get contacts. I'm 14 and I am also near-sighted. Contacts help me see so much better than my glasses...In WDW I had my glasses once and I hated it...I couldn't see very well (also had bifocals so I couldn't see where I was walking) and I couldn't wear sunglasses...If it is possible for you to get contacts...try it...it makes things clear and crisp...lights don't have that pesky blur effect...just give them a try...I love my contacts and would rather not see than wear my glasses...that should tell you how nice contacts really are... give them a try if you can...the cost is well worth it also....

I kept my sunglasses on during all the crazy roller coasters at Busch Gardens in Va. and if those loose glasses didn't come off, I think you're safe at Disney to leave them on. I wore my regular glasses on EE this past trip and didn't have a problem at all.

Thanks so much for the replies.

I have been giving the contacts thing some thought. I used to wear them until I became PG with my first child and then they didn't fit right. It was much easier to see in them though.

It's good to hear that most people haven't had any issues with losing their glasses so that is reassuring :) .

Piggybacking on this thread, I know...

Has anyone had experience with the magnetic type of clip-on sunglasses that come with some eyeglasses?

I've never had problems with my eyeglasses before - wear them on everything - but my current pair is the first that came with a pair (set?) of sunglasses that stick to the glasses with magnets (I am probably wording this incorrectly; however, anyone who has them will probably know what I mean).

Do you think these things would stay on during most rides?

Will be there next week!! Whoo Hoo!!

This will sound slightly silly- although maybe not to people who are as in love with WDW as I am- but a big part of the reason I started wearing contacts was so I could experience the rides completely. I have never worn my glasses on any thrill rides because I am afraid of losing them- I have very poor vision. If I were you or anyone going to Disney Id consider getting fitted for contacts. I get mine at WalMart and its not very expensive there at all. They say theyre 2week disposables but the truth is you can wear them until something happens to them.

I couldnt believe how great it was not only being up so high, etc, but actually SEEING it. I will never wear glasses to an amusement park, especially Disney again!!!

BUT-if that isnt a choice I would put them it my pocket or a backpack that goes on the ride with me... I always carry a backpack at the world.

another good reason to get contacts you can wear sunglasses. any sunglasses you want instead of perscription ones... I was so excited (i literally bought my contacts right before my trip last year) that i bought sunglasses that say walt disney world on the lens in MGM. :teeth:

My husband really needs his glasses and has NEVER taken them off on any Disney ride (RNR, TOT, MS, etc). Has had no problems and doesn't use a strap. Don't think you would have any problem. Cindy :wizard:

I only take off my glasses for Tower of Terror, because they will fly off when you drop....but I have never had any trouble with any other ride.

I think next time I'll bring a strap to try myself. This past trip I depended on keeping them on until we came to a rough patch, then I took them off and either held them in my hand or buttoned them into my cargo pants/shorts pocket. Love them cargo pockets!
