My friends are cancelling out on a reservation for a two bedroom I made for them which will give us an abundance of points. My banking deadline is September so I don't have a lot of time but I was thinking about renting some points. For those who have rented how have you accepted payment? I want to be fair and know there is trust involved on each side. Thanks.

Nisiemouse, I'm staying in late Sept on rented points. We sealed the deal in April and I gave $300 (roughly about 25%) right away via Paypal once owner gave me conf. # and I called MS to confirm it myself. At the time I had 3 rooms reserved at ASMo with a little over $600 into the ressie with WDTC. I told DVC owner that as soon as that was refunded to me, I would send it to him (about 50% of the total BCV ressie). That took about 3 weeks. I sent that in a money order because he was charged a fee with Paypal. We had agreed that I would pay the balance (another $300) by 60 months out of ressie which would be end of this month, but DH got a good commission check late last month, so I sent the balance to him via PayPal...this time I added about $10 extra to cover the PayPal fee.

It worked out great because here we are about 60 days out and I have ressie completely paid for and 3 of my 6 PH passes already purchased.

PayPal is so easy to sign up, but don't sign up for the higher level of membership because you get charged a fee if someone sends you money. With the basic level of membership, you can receive or send money through a credit card or bank debit card with no fees. Really very easy.

Before we became members, I rented points at least a dozen times. I rented from many different people. I never paid anyone any money up front. Actually, nobody ever asked. They would make the ressie and send me the confirmation. I then called MS just to reconfirm. Then I sent the person the entire amount. I never had a single problem. Good Luck.

Thanks for the information. I found someone on the boards who can use most of my friend's dates so it has worked out great for both of us.:D

Thanks for all the info--I didn't ask the question, but I posted some pts for rent on the rent-trade board yesterday for the first time ever, and I wasn't sure how to do this in order to be fair to both the renter and myself. I was shocked by the number of responses I received--14 in one day!! It made me feel good to know that this trust thing with points actually works. Next year I will have to watch the banking-borrowing rules more carefully.
