What you fail to comprehend is that some airlines don't assign seating to everyone on every flight. They also resell your confirmed seat. They also switch aircraft and reassign your seats, cancel flights and cancel your seat. That to me, is like flying standby or worse flying "maybe".
IMHO, even if it was good TV and it was being upfront and honest, I think it might have been a shot in the foot for SWA, guess they underestimated the number of people that take everything they see on TV literally and in spite of the narration during that particular program, think this happens all the time. Which happily, it does not.
