Question for those that know Southwest?

What you fail to comprehend is that some airlines don't assign seating to everyone on every flight. They also resell your confirmed seat. They also switch aircraft and reassign your seats, cancel flights and cancel your seat. That to me, is like flying standby or worse flying "maybe".

First of all, thanks for answering my question. DH and I had guessed that was the reason but we couldn't see the logic.

And I agree that all the airlines engage in this practice. DH has been bumped by those "major" airlines because of overbooking in the past.

I also think that whoever edited the show chose the pieces that would make the "good television". It gave a skewed perspective to how many times this probably happens on Southwest. The edit made it look like an everyday thing. The Southwest employees handle themselves commendably. Kudos to Southwest for being "brave" enough to show it all.

Glad I could help. IMHO, even if it was good TV and it was being upfront and honest, I think it might have been a shot in the foot for SWA, guess they underestimated the number of people that take everything they see on TV literally and in spite of the narration during that particular program, think this happens all the time. Which happily, it does not.
