Ok, let me just vent about the shrimp thing........
If you would actually look up why shrimp was an abomination then you would understand why it was written in there. It was for the good of the people.

I know why shrimp was considered an abomination back then. I was using it to illustrate a point as to why something considered bad then isn't necessarily going to apply to today.

I honestly don't believe that God is so cruel that he would do such a thing, but the way I see it is like this:

In the bible, it says that stealing is a sin. Have any of you sneaked a piece of candy before? 'Borrowed' something from your sister/brother/mother/father and returned it before they knew it was gone? Have you ever picked a stray dollar/quarter/penny off the street and, instead of turning it into police, stuck it in your pocket instead? If you did any of those, you were sinning.

In the bible, it says that lying is a sin. Have any of you lied before? I know I have...and my sister....and even my mother and father. My grandmother has lied and so have my friends. Does this mean that we're all going to Hell?

According to the bible being gay is a sin as well. So what? Didn't Jesus die so that we could be forgiven for such sins? Some of the nicest, most understanding people in this world are gay. So if they are not going to be allowed into Heaven for sinning, than I guess none of us are.

I am against gay marriages 100%. I am a strong christian and the Bible says that gay marriage is wrong. I dont think the Bible needs to be changed to "fit" todays views. The Bible is written by the mouth of God, not by the mouth of random men who wants to please every tom, dick, and harry out there. (if ur name is any of these i am sorry) Alot of things have changed since Bible times. yes i agree. But i noticed that u only quoted from Leviticus. Have u ever read the new testament then? Alot of rules were changed in the new testament.

Back to the original question, gay marriage is wrong. Marriage was made by God for a MAN and a WOMAN. have u ever noticed that in the beginning there was man and woman? it was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. i truly believe that if God wanted us to be gay, he would have made us gay from the very beginning, no not of our lives, but since the earth was created.

I see where your coming from, and I am not trying to start an argument here, but I wonder what your point of view is..

What kind of Christian are you? (I don't mean that nastily, I mean what type Lol) Because in my opinion, the bible has and continues to be reinterpreted to fit todays views. Many 'good christians' get involved in pre-marital sex, use contraception and get divorced etc, but yet when it comes to gay marriage they are against it. Also, in the bible, a woman who had an affair was stoned to death, clearly they aren't anymore and that is certainly a good thing. Views change over time.

Thanks for sharing your opinion though, its nice to see things from anothers perspective.

It depends from what point of view you are looking at the bible from.

I'm catholic (well, lapsed, now agnostic) and catholics do not believe being gay is a sin at all, they say it is okay to be gay and will be accepted in heaven, but homosexual sex is a sin apparantly.

Other christians like Evangelical Protestants being homosexuality is a sin.

Liberal Christians believe everything is fine.. but gay marriages will never be equal to hetero marriages.

Overall, I'm trying to say that you can't really say the bible says this and that when the bible is interpreted differently by everyone, therefore people see different things.

A lot of people believe in the Bible. To them all of the Bible is true. That is their way of thinking, so in a sense they are thinking for themself.

True, but so many read the bible and believe every word of it and that's it. they shut down to everything else and all other views. The bible is telling them what to believe, what's right, and what's wrong. Not your thoughts. The bible's.

I know that. I don't agree with those people. I read the Bible sometimes, but I do not take everything in it literally. I have a friend who is Catholic and she is so against gay marriage (and gays...she thinks it's a choice) and she cites the Bible as her source and what she has been taught. Yet she goes against other things in the Bible (being drunk, etc). She basically thinks that because Catholics say so (and most Christians say so) it should be THAT way. I'll never understand people who think that their belief is the ONLY belief that is right. I cannot understand that way of thinking.

Because, you know, there's something absolutely FANTASTIC called the seperation of Church and state, you know.

I'm Christian, Roman Catholic, but my religion doesn't define who I am as a person or what I believe. I can believe in whatever I want to believe in. Does it make me less of a Catholic? I don't know, I still believe in and love God, and that's what matters in the end.

I've so far lurked this thread, and I'm trying SO HARD to keep all my anger in (and try to make this post as PG as I can).

How can people be so IGNORANT? If the Bible said "When you lie, you must jump off a cliff", would you believe it? Furthermore, would you DO it? Thought not.

Love is LOVE! It doesn't matter WHO is in love, but it just is! Gays are born that way (it has been scientifically proven), and for those who think it's a choice, think of it this way: would you really want to be part of a group of people who are continuously hated and bashed for no good reason because you WANTED to? Didn't think so either.

I know, gays/lesbians cannot reproduce (except in the case of insemination). But think of it this way: if every woman/man couple (married, of course) had kids, the world would've become overpopulated ages ago! (ie, the Duggar family, with their ridiculous 18 kids)

Bash if you want, but consider this: it's your opinion, not mine. Yes, I am atheist. Yes, I'm bisexual. Does this matter? No. Just my 2 cents here.

I guess you don't eat shrimp or lobster, you wear 100% cotton clothes that are completely white, you wear a scarf on your head (or you're bald, either one), you stone adulterers, you burn bulls to please the lord, you have a few slaves (but note: if you live in the US, they must be from Mexico or Canada), you anoint your head daily, and you never speak up against a man or boy and you never try to teach them anything.

Because you know, all of that's in the bible, too. It strikes me as hypocritical that you believe in one passage, but not the rest.
