I am wondering if those of you who are on the Weight Watchers program can clarify something for me. I bought a fresh pineapple today and would really like to know the portion size for a serving. In my guidebook it says:

Pineapple, fresh, 1/4 (12 oz) or 1 cup = 2 points

My dilemna is this, I measured 1 cup and decided to see how many oz. it was and when I weighed it, it was only 8 oz. So I am wondering if the 12 oz. statement is with the rind on or not? Also, when it says 1/4, I assume it is 1/4 of the pineapple, but this isn't always accurate because they vary in size. So how can I be sure I take the right portion size 2 points?

I'm not on weightwatchers but I'm pretty sure the weight does not include the rind unless you are going to eat the rind and I kind of doubt you plan to do that :teeth:

I think to make sure it is 2 points I would weigh it out and eat the 12 ounces worth.

I know we have lots of WW people on WISH, they know better than I.

Thanks, Katholyn. I did measure out the 12 oz., but it was a cup and a half and seemed like a HUGE portion, that is why I asked. You know one of those two good to be true things. :)

Now that you mention it, that does seem like a huge serving size. Sounds yummy though, I love fresh pineapple.

My suggestion would be to get yourself one of those books that have the calorie and fat content of every single food on earth (some of them even have fiber content). That way, if you aren't sure, you can check in the book and then use the point counter.

BTW, I have no idea what the answer to your question is. I'd assume it's just the pineapple and not the rind (skin? what does surround a pineapple?).

I think because pineapple has so much fiber in it, that you can have a huge serving. I've joined WW on line, so I live on their point calculator, and I know fiber really helps out.

Hey, did you know that All Bran is 0 points? Tastes kinda like dog food though.

But hey, if it helps, Woof! Woof!

I am on WW and got great advice from one of my friends when we differed in our thoughts on the points. I thought something was 2 points, she thought 1 point. She told me she didn't get the way she was because she ate 1 extra point and she wasn't going to lose much less if she ate the 1 extra point. I decided she was right.

I would count 1/4 of the pineapple as 1 point. One day my 1/4 pineapple might be a little bigger and one day a little smaller, but it would only differ by 1/2 a point!

In the scheme of your week, unless you are at the very top of your point range every single day, it won't matter. Of course this is only MHO.
