I've started Phase I. The sample menu lists tomato or vege. juice with breakfast. I really dislike both of them. Do you have a suggestion about what to substitute for this?

I just started phase one and I too am not a big tomato and veggie juice drinker, nor do I like a lot of fish, however I am following the diet to the "T" so that I can see the results. I realize that I do not like these things, but can tolerate them for the results. The purpose of the specific plan is to get your blood back in order and the tomato and veggie juice really help to get you there.

Hi,

I've joined the South Beach Diet's website and many people there have said the same thing. The nutritionist said that the juice is not mandatory, it's just there as a serving of veggies since many people do not like to eat veggies in the morning. She said you can substitute the juice for 1/2 cup of veggies (I like spinach, mushrooms & red onions in my eggs for example) or just eat the 1/2 c. later on in the day.

Hope that helps!
:D

Nicole, could you post the website address, I would love to look at it. thanks

Sure, no problem! It's: www.southbeachdiet.com

I'm not sure how much you'll be able to read without joining (it's $30 for a membership, I believe) but if you have any other questions, just ask! I really like it so far. I don't have the book but I've read that there is more up-to-date info on the website so I probably won't buy it now.

Thanks for the reply! I just cannot think of starting my day with that juice--ugh! Veggies in my omelet, I can handle that!

Is the $30 just the start up or do you need to keep paying as you go along?

The $30 is for the 1st 6 weeks, then it's $6.96 a month after that. I don't think that price is too bad. It seems to be much less expensive than Weight Watchers and even eDiets has gotten much more expensive (they used to be $10 a month and now it's more than twice that!). However, the website is fairly new and is still being developed all the time. But I do like that there are 2 nutritionists on staff that answer your questions, it just takes them a little while.

There are also several messageboards where you can get support. There is a recipe board where I've gotten some menu ideas and also a questions & answer board and other support boards.

Hope that helps!

Nicole thanks for the information.
