Question for rollercoaster wimp

Hi everyone,

I have a question. First of all, I am the biggest roller-coaster wimp you will ever meet. I do not get motion-sickness on rides, but I dread that feeling of butterflies in your stomach. I have NEVER been on a Rollercoaster as an adult! Only kiddie coasters when I was little (and I hated them.) It took years for me to agree to go on Splash Mountain and I can handle the big drop but I still dread that moment of descent the entire time!

Anyway, I have been toying with the idea of trying BTM or Space Mountain this trip. Any experience from real coaster wimps? Better or worse than expected? I'm going to need some encouragement! :scared1:

I wouldn't recommend either if you are a true 'roller coaster wimp' as you say, but if you do decide to ride Big Thunder, make sure to sit in the front as it is much more tame than a ride in the back seat.

I'm a pretty big wimp -- I refuse to do almost everything at Universal, Six Flags, etc, but I can handle Splash, Big Thunder, and Space ok. Space is worse to me, partly because it's in the dark (doesn't help anxiety when you can't see what's coming!) and partly because it bangs you around so much. It's really not very fast, and there aren't any big drops... certainly none that rival Splash!... but it's uncomfortable to me because it knocks you around. That said, I do it at least once every trip!

If it's the anticipation and not the actual movement that bothers you, then you may want to ride Space Mountain. Since it's in the dark, you'll never see the drops coming. :thumbsup2

My brother and mom are self proclaimed roller coaster wimps. Splash mountain terrifies them. Big Thunder Mountan, they could do and they love.

(The first time we got my brother on splash as a teen---he hyperventilated and was freaking out after the drop. Thunder, he is all smiles!)

You could start with Barnstormer...

My DH is not a fan of coasters, but he does love Space Mountain. His explanation is that he doesn't have to see what's coming. He will ride BTMR, but not a fan at all.

BTTM is not a roller coaster, its a wild train ride -- it does have sudden drops, but they are not fast and long.

You do better than me - I can't ride Splash at WDW that drop is toooo intense. Like it at DL though - more dark ride and the drop is about half the height (still dread the drop but doable).

I would agree to start at Barnstormer. BTMRR would be my choice as I think it is smoother than Space. I get a backache from Space. But it depends on what the hangup is - I have friends that love Space because they can't see what is coming and others that that bothers immensely so they don't ride it.

I would definitely consider myself a roller coaster wimp. I enjoy BTRM and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I used to enjoy Space Mountain but the last few years, it has been a bit too much for me - seems rougher than before and I really don't like being in the dark and not being able to see what is coming.

I am pretty much a coaster wimp. The first time we went to Disney, my DH made me promise I would ride everything. And I did. The next trip he wanted the same agreement, but I refused Tower of Terror. I hate the "losing my stomach" feeling from it. For the other big rides I just close my eyes. Now for this trip, I'm honestly quite content that we have a short 3 year old and I have an excuse not to ride some of those bigger thrill rides :)

That being said, I love Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain, although I find SM really jerky and not sure I will feel the need to ride this time (last time it had just been refurbed and I wanted to see the changes). We will do most of MK with rider swap.

My daughter (10) hates drops, she panics on ToT, refuses Aerosmith, barely tolerates Space mountain. This past trip, her favorite ride was thunder, we rode it at least 6 times and she wanted to end our last night there riding over and over (but it stormed so it was closed :(

It doesn't have big drops and is so fun!

I find BTrM to be much easier than Space. I even prefer RnR over Space. The drop at Splash I can just barely do and I have only ddone ToT once and that was enough!

I am a roller coaster wimp. Never used to be but after having kids my stomach can't stand the butterflies. I like BTMR and I think it is way less scary than Splash. I would not recommend Space as it's probably the most scary of the 3. If you can handle splash you can handle BTMR.

BTMRR was our first coaster and it took 2-3 trips to steel our nerves. It was amazing and we kicked ourselves for not trying it sooner. 2 trips later and the exact same thing happened on Space Mtn, though BTMRR was still the king. A trip later it took everything I had to get the girls on Expedition Everest and what do you know? LOVE it! We could have been doing it for years. We haven't been to Hollywood Studios so haven't tried Aerosmith.

Our next trip will center around Universal so we will see if our courage extends to the (much) higher intensity rides. If anyone has a good story to share, please do. Feel free to keep bad stories to yourself!

I so understand. I can't handle roller coasters. I'm pretty certain my heart can't take it. Its mostly my fear of the drops. I do enjoy Big Thunder Mountain as it doesn't have big drops at all.

When I was younger I did go on Space Mountain, only because of pier pressure. I still don't know how I lived through it but somehow I did. I had a nervous laugh the entire time and it wasn't the worst thing in the world but its nothing I would do again.

I won't do Splash. I would love to see the rest of the ride but could never handle the drop.

What I do is go on u tube and watch the ride videos. That always helps me decide if I can handle a ride or not.

Have fun on your trip!

I truly hate coasters, drops, etc. It took me years to finally try BTMRR and I ended up loving it! I have no desire to ever attempt Splash or Space Mountain, but I can ride BTMRR over and over again (and have).
