Question for OKW owners?

If you own at OKW, where do you USUALLY book?

  • Mostly at OKW

  • All DVC resorts equally

  • Mostly at BWV

  • Mostly at BCV

  • Mostly at VWL

  • Plan to usually book SSR in the future

Same question as for SSR, but this time I want to know, if you are an OKW owner, what are your USUAL booking practices?

We nearly always use our home resort of OKW for our reservations because the point totals are best for us.

It does not surprise me that some OKW owners use all resorts. Being the first DVC, most of us have been members longer.

More times than not we book a 1-B/R at OKW. We feel that's the best value for the points required. For example, in Adventure season, at 16 points/weeknight, it's only 4 points more than just a studio at BCV, VWL, or regular BWV. (pref view) of 12 points.

We have stayed at BWV and VWL each once before. But mostly we book at OKW because of the bigger rooms and the parking by the door---plus we just love it there. But I would like to try SSR and BCV in the future as well.

We own at OKW and BWV. We book our trips according to the kind of trip we are taking. Our large family trips are at OKW for the spacious rooms. Our adult trips are at BWV. So every other year we stay at OKW. Three times in two years we are at BWV. Sorry I didn't fit the poll.

Last January was the first time we ventured off to another DVC resort (VWL) other than our beloved OKW. I'm still not keen about the name OKW and will still tend to call it DVC ... since that's what it was originally called. There's just something special about going home to the home you own. Somehow, we felt like we were guests at VWL, if you know what I mean. I'm sure we'll eventually get around to staying at other DVC resorts, but home is where our heart is! :cloud9:

I know what you mean! I think for those of us who own OKW, the hotel feel of the other resorts make it feel like we are "guests". That's not so true of SSR though.

A year ago DH and I came down without the kids for a family wedding (no kids invited - which we enjoyed quite a bit!) anyway.. we could have stayed anywhere on site - i was ready to pay cash - whatever! :confused3

After literally weeks of debating the pros and cons - we decided on a 1BR at OKW. I remember thinking - will I ever see any other DVC resort? Will I ever stay at Poly or GF?

Didn't matter once we drove through the gate, I knew we chose wisely. I have come to identify total relaxation with OKW!!! :goodvibes

LOL! Me TOO! :cloud9:

Unfortunately, I could not answer in this poll because we typically use our OKW points (we have others) to book at Vero....but, it's an interesting poll nonetheless :)

I decided to only include the WDW DVC resorts. I actually thought about the others, but decided that would be a different poll.

I own points at all the DVC resorts (more at OKW than anywhere else), and almost exclusively use points at their home resort. That way I have the 11 month window at all the resorts.

OKW is definiely our favorite.

When I am going solo - I like to try the other resorts - that sofa bed is great for solo trip. but when I travel with anyone else - it is OKW - I don't like to try to fix the sofa bed when I am tired out of my mind.

with OKW - I just jump in - no thinking and moving stuff required.

I am cheap - so I generally stay in studios. I tell the others it is either studio or don't go....that generally ends the argument.

I've stayed at almost all of the DVC resorts, but more times than not I'll go to OKW. IMHO the points value makes a huge difference. I'd rather have 5 nights at OKW than 3 at the Beach club is a reasonable rule of thumb, unless I'm planning to spend the whole trip around the pool so I'm saving on park tickets etc.

I agree, Vernon. We have only used our points at SSR for one night prior to an OKW stay. We have often talked about doing a BWV or BCV stay for the proximatey to Epcot, but we just can't justify using the extra points when we love the accommodations at OKW, and we don't think walking to parks over taking a bus is any advantage. Besides, to get to the front entrance, you would walk quite a ways early morning.

We stayed at BWV once and were not impressed.

OKW is the best for point value and room space, so we just stay there. The kids like it best, too.

We stay at other Disney resorts during the year using AP or FL resident discounts, but we like OKW for our annual week long Summer trip.

I agree Diane. We stayed at BWV in '03. From our room to Epcot felt like 15-20 min. Then you still have to walk all the way through to the front of the park. We were there in late July into early August. It was so hot/humid for a hike like that.....then it rained often and we got drenched to the bone walking back. I just think we do enough walking once we're inside the parks.

I never understood how people grumble about how "spread out" OKW is.....and what a hike to the pool or HH etc. I find it to be much less walking when compared to walking to Epcot or MGM from BWV ? I just don't see any difference. I know there are many very loyal BWV people on these boards and I don't argue it's a very nice resort, it's just the whole advantage to walking thing I don't always guite get ? It's really nice to be able to board an air conditioned bus or hop in your car and ride to the parks if ya ask me. :cool1:

Yep, I totally agree!
