Hi all! We're currently looking at staying off-site for part of a trip next June. I've been checking several sites, and I must say, I've been very impressed with the accomodations available, both quality and quantity. There are almost too many choices! And the prices are great, as well.

So, here's my question: Is anyone concerned about putting a deposit on a house that then gets put in foreclosure? Has this happened to anyone? MIght it make sense to go through an agency (All-star Homes, etc.), would that provide some protection form this? Normally I wouldn't be concerned, but you can't help but hear about foreclosures left and right on the news these days. I would hate to put down a deposit and then find out I was out the money and the rental and have to scramble. Or worse, show up and not have access to the home!

I would appreciate any input people have on this.

You could check the county site to see whether the owner is up to date on taxes -that might give you an indication of any cash flow problems but foreclosures I don't think show up until its maybe too late.
You could book with an agency but then who is to say whether they know if the owners are having trouble paying mortgages etc?

You could ask for a personal recommendation for a home - maybe from people on here who have rented homes before many times.
When you find a home ask lots of questions of the owner.Hoe many times a year do they visit -this will tell you they take an active interest in the up keep and look of their home.
When were the last set of up grades done?
Will they give you their man co details so you can check with them?
Make sure you get a contract of sorts that sets out what is expected from both sides .
I know renting a a leap of faith but it is one that both si.des take and any owner worth their salt will do all they can to ensure your vacation goes smoothly

You could also consider renting at a timeshare resort. There are tons of them right near Disney that are wonderful.

Here are some to check out:

Orange Lake Resort
Marriott's Grande Vista, Cypress Harbour and Horizon's Resorts
Hilton Grand Vacation Club
Bonnet Creek Resort...practically onsite..next to the Caribbean Beach Resort.
Cypress Pointe Resort

All of these have multi bedrooms, large soaking tubs, kids activities, great pool areas, full kitchens and washer/dryers.

We have had many wonderful trips staying at these places. Can't imagine putting 5 of us in one room.

Hope this helps!

We're considering those also--thanks for the suggestions. They also might be cheaper. DD13 wants her own room and DS11 loves the idea of a game room--actually, they both do. Then we have two little ones (5 and 2), so the idea of a little pool of our own sounds great. But, it'll also depend on how "rich" we feel in a few months, and while I like to give my kids a good time on vacation, they don't always get what they want, KWIM?
