question for machine embroiderers

I want to applique a square on a shirt for my daughter. The plan is to monogram the piece of fabric, then applique it onto the shirt. I've never digitized anything in my life so I don't know where to begin! I have a Janome MC 300E and the software that came with it. Is this something I can do there? I'd also like to do a circle - but hey - one thing at a time!! Any help would be appreciated!!!

Sorry I can't help answer your question since I don't have an embroidery machine (it's on my wish list). However, you might be able to get help on this board where several Dissers who sew and do other crafts share tips and projects: http://disboutiquers.proboards106.com/index.cgi I know a couple of the ladies have embroidery machines and one has digitized.
