Question for ladies

I would let the rude question roll off my back. I love empire waist cuts and wear them often. I also tend to wear shirts one size bigger because they are more comfortable.

This. :thumbsup2 If you are comfortable and like the way it looks, who gives a rip what other people think? :)

First, that question was so rude! That has to rank up there with some of the most thoughtless questions asked :headache:

Second, if I liked the shirt, I would keep wearing it. Who cares what some person I have never met and will likely never see again thinks?

Except that if that person was thinking it enough to ask, how many are thinking it?

I would toss it in a New York Minute. :thumbsup2

I think every time I tried to wear it again I would think of this comment and feel self concious. I'd get rid of it.

It is not ok to ask that question!

I personally love that style of top. So, no, I would not get rid of it.

If someone made that comment to me, I would probably say, "Funny, I was just going to ask you the same thing!". Man or woman, it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the interesting and amusing replies:goodvibes I laughed the question off at the time (the man was as embarrassed as I was and told me his pregnant daughter wears that style top all of the time). However, I did end up going home and changing. The comfy top just wasn't as comfortable when I was feeling self concious wearing it. It's time to clean out my closet anyway, so I think I will just donate the top and be a little more careful with my clothing choices.

I'd get rid of it. Also, I'll tell you what I tell my daughter when we go Easter dress shopping: 'There is nothing wrong with your body. It's the clothing. It's cut wrong'.
I had a shirt that I loved but I saw a picture of myself in it & it cupped under my stomach in such a way that I looked pregnant. I spent way too many years wearing stuff that didn't look good on me at all. I refuse to wear anything I don't think looks good on me.

I have an empire waist style blouse on today and was just asked (by a stranger) when I was due...... my answer was "I'm not." My initial thought was to rush home as quickly as possible to change clothes and join Weight Watchers ASAP:rotfl: But then I thought about it and I really like this blouse, it is comfortable and I hate to get rid of it just because 1 person thought I looked pregnant.

So my question is, what would you do? Lose the shirt or let the question roll off my back?

I got asked this last year when I was wearing an empire-style top and I took it as a compliment that the lady thought I was young enough to be pregnant. :rotfl2:

Oh I park in those all the time. My theory....prove it. Figure I am good until I am about 60

You’re good until 100;) It is perfectly legal to park in one of those spots, pregnant or not. I don’t get why an expectant mother can’t park in a regular spot? :confused3

As for the OP, I probably wouldn’t wear the top again.

I have had someone ask me that before, and it's awful. But really, who the heck does that? Especially with that style top? They are everywhere, very much instyle these days, why would you assume that because someone is wearing one! What an idiot! I have a couple of that style, and they are comfy, and yes sometimes I think they might make someone think that, but at this point, I just don't care anymore.

Why would I let someone's exceedingly rude question affect my clothing choices?

In response to that comment, I'd probably ask them where their muzzle was. Because clearly they need one.

Empire cut tops and dresses simply do that to one's figure. To everyone's figure. Prince William's wife could wear one and it would look like she was pregnant. Either accept that and keep wearing it, or toss it.

They are done as a courtesy. Especially to those pregnant women who overreact to the relaxin hormone and can barely walk b/c their knees, ankles, and hips are so blown apart from it. Or those women who get symphysis pain which is a pain like no other (and makes it VERY hard to walk, especially when combined with other joints being messed up). Or those women who get asthma while pregnant.

(obviously I should have gone to someone and seen about a handicap placard, since I could barely move after 5 or 6 months of pregnancy...but I didn't, and our stores didn't have those expectant mother spots until AFTER it was all too late for me...but the point is, it's a NICE thing that some stores wish to do for women who are pregnant and having problems. therefore, I don't park in them and won't until and unless I'm pregnant and having problems walking again!)

I have a friend who wears those tops a lot. She is tiny but even she looks pregnant in them. I'm not a fan.

I'd keep it. No one is going to tell me what I can and can not wear and I will not allow someones stupidity make me toss a perfectly good shirt. I wear many shirts like that because of my body shape (big on top and big hips). They show off the good and hide the bad. If someone is dumb enough to ask me if I am "due" then that is on them... laugh and walk away.

:thumbsup2

I have pretty severe scoliosis so I like these kinds of tops. I can hide a lot of my deformities yet still wear something cute and stylish. If someone thinks I'm pregnant, then oh well.

I love those tops because you don't have to suck in anything to wear them.

I've gotten the "when are you due" question several times when wearing them, which sucks. I think if you are flat up top and super skinny, you won't get the pregnant questions, but if you are larger up top, for some reason it always looks like a maternity top.

I don't care, though. I wear them anyway, when I'm having a "fat day." :rotfl:

I would wear it again but feel free to ignore my fashion advice as I dress for comfort.

:hug:I'm sure the top looks fine.
