I have an empire waist style blouse on today and was just asked (by a stranger) when I was due...... my answer was "I'm not." My initial thought was to rush home as quickly as possible to change clothes and join Weight Watchers ASAP:rotfl: But then I thought about it and I really like this blouse, it is comfortable and I hate to get rid of it just because 1 person thought I looked pregnant.

So my question is, what would you do? Lose the shirt or let the question roll off my back?

I won't wear empire waist items for that reason. No need for the clothing to help me look BIG. However, if you like the way you look in it, then let it roll!

I feel for you. I love the comfy feel of a peasant blouse or empire waist blouse, but I do admit they make me look pregnant! I try to only wear them around home or when I know I am mentally prepared for any comments or looks. And my belly is not particularly big, I carry my weight in the hips & butt, it's just the style of the top. Some can pull it off, some can't. I can't.

But to answer your question, I would just say to heck with them and wear what you like :thumbsup2 Besides, WHO asks that question anyway???? Rude...

I would cry, never wear it again and it would need to leave my home. I have gained some weight in the last year and I feel terrible about how I look that comment would have put me over the edge.

And FWIW, it is NEVER appropriate to ask someone if they are pregnant or when they are due unless you see a babys head coming out. Otherwise, not an appropriate question.

No empire waist shirts for me. I don't need to create the illusion that there is an even bigger belly growing under there, either because its full with a baby, or full from too much chocolate cupcakes ;)

:thumbsup2 agree.

Ummm.....I'd give it away. It's soft, blousy, comfy self would never find it's way onto my shoulders again.

I'd lose the blouse but then again I've been emotionally scarred since high school when someone lamebrain asked me that very same question. BTW it probably has nothing to do with your weight so no need to join weight watchers. When the person asked me in high school I was borderline anorexic at 5'9 115 lbs, but baggy shirts and leggings were all the style so I guess it just depends on the person's fashion sense.

I would wear the blouse. Even if your belly is flat, that style is good for hiding things - so it could look that way for any girl.

Same thing happened to me when I was at CHURCH wearing, what I thought was, a really cute summer dress. I laughed it off to this person, accepted their apologies, but went home and cried. This happened last year and I've since only worn the dress once, and only after DH assured me multiple times that I did not look preggers. Seriously, what are people thinking to ask this? :headache:

This....:scared1: What are people thinking????

This is why I don't were empire waist blouses. I saw a pretty one in the Lands End catalog but kept on going.

I would let the rude question roll off my back. I love empire waist cuts and wear them often. I also tend to wear shirts one size bigger because they are more comfortable.

I would keep wearing it and start parking in those "Expectant Mother" parking spaces. :thumbsup2

I think it really depends what you pair it with. I have a few empire waist and peasant tops but only wear them with a pencil skirt or very trim cut pants. The tops aren't long either so it's very easy to see my abdomen is flat and trim.

By the way, this is a perfect example of why you never ask someone when they are do unless you've gotten confirmation she's pregnant.

I wouldn't care what type of article of clothing it is (empire waist or not). If it made me look pregnant, I would not wear it anymore. It would be tossed into my "next yard sale" pile.

I'd keep it. No one is going to tell me what I can and can not wear and I will not allow someones stupidity make me toss a perfectly good shirt. I wear many shirts like that because of my body shape (big on top and big hips). They show off the good and hide the bad. If someone is dumb enough to ask me if I am "due" then that is on them... laugh and walk away.
