Today I saw Minnie in 4 different outfits. I'm thinking I read somewhere that Mickey and Minnie each have something like 300 outfits in their closets! What I'm wondering is does that mean there are more than 300 full Minnies in a closet backstage? Or, are there a limited number of the actual Minnie and she is just dressed, like a doll, in the different clothes? The clothes look sewn on, but that seems like a lot of storage space! Just something I was wondering while standing in line for the 4th time to meet the Mrs. Mouse!

Pretty sure wardrobe is the largest the department, space wise, handling like 10's of thousands of costumes for all the cast members per day. Keeping track of 300 or so outfits is nothing.

But the OP doesn't mean just the outfits, but 300 different Minnie bodies with the different outfits on them.

I've seen this question asked before and I never saw a good answer, and I think it's because it's a hard question to ask in a way that gets understood. I'm intrigued by the answer, because 300 separate Minnies, separate Mickey's, however many separate etcs, does add up to a lot of space. But it also seems like a pain to dress them. :)

1. When I said outfit I meant body aka the outfit the friend wears.

2. Still 300 (probably more since there are more than one copy of each) is a drop in the bucket versus the number of uniforms they have for all 65,000 CM's. I found this at http://www.wdwmagic.com/facts!.htm

Walt Disney World's Costuming department has 2 1/2 million garments (pieces).

3. Dressing them would be more than a pain it would probably add to the wear and tear of the body. Now maybe they do share bodies for some of the more unique and not used much costumes.

I watched a documentary recently which said that Disney World in Florida has the largest wardrobe department in the world. Each costume is custom made for each CM. WOW!

If each body is unique to an outfit think of all those heads sitting around backstage! Every outfit has a different bow or hat!

I do not have an answer to the original question. However, as a former CM, I can say that the costume was not custom made for me. But, they did measure me to make sure that the size I checked out to wear, fit well. I did this once, and then just checked out the same size every time I went to work. Costuming is quite an amazing department.

I thought it was so cool that I went to work, checked out my bar coded costume, and after my shift, I changed back into my own clothes and dropped the costume off at the costume desk or in a large bin. They clean then and get them ready for the next person.

So according to "Little -known facts about well- known places:Walt Disney World Mickey has more than 290 outfits and Minnie more than 200! It's a great little book!

True - space is huge - and 300 is a small blip on the radar.

I've seen this question asked before and I never saw a good answer...

It's a huge no no to answer questions like this ;)

LOL - oh boy, that's not true! Select CMs do have custom garments, but that is for actors/singers and a very small percentage of merch/attrac/food/etc Cast.

Outside the F! theatre there was a sweeper CM that was around 7 feet tall.

He said he had to wait an extra 2 weeks to start work because they had to make him a pair of pants. He must have had a 40"+ inseam.

They must go through a fair bit of washing detergent...

The only Disney Laundry I have seen on TV was on one of the cruise ships. I think it came in 55 gallon drums and each machine was fed from a central supply. It was a huge operation.
