Question for former CPs that extended in their program

Can any of you tell me how the housing situation works with the extension? My daughter and all of her roommates(except for one that did not apply for the extension) have successfully been extended and they are all hoping to stay in their current apartment. Their hope is to just receive a new roommate for the departing roommate. Is this even possible? Do they need to contact housing to request to remain in their location?

Any info would be greatly appreciated as none of them have any idea what the next step is with regards to housing.

This is kind of a sore spot with me (a parent).

My daughter extended and was told she had to move as they had to clean her apartment to get it ready for the next occupants. It was over Christmas and I was there anyway so I helped her and another roommate totally clean the apartment they were leaving (as they are to leave them clean) and then she was placed in another apartment.

The other apartment had no occupants and 6 people were placed in it at the same time (within an hour or so). That wasn't the problem but the problem was it was absolutely filthy dirty. By that I mean there was unidentifable meat on plates in the living room, one bedroom was stacked high with shredded paper and paper trash, everything was a disaster...the type that would take bags and bags of trash bags and cleaner to handle.

So housing told them not to unpack because they still had to clean this apartment and they had to stack their belongings on top of the bed and desks until they could get in and clean it.

The whole thing made no sense to me. Hopefully the process has changed but this was just our experience (3 years ago this time of year).

Swell....

Sadly when the girls moved into the apartment at the start of the program the place was pretty dirty as well and a lot of us parents cleaned it up while they were at traditions. If housing had come in to clean it prior, they did not do a good job at all! It was 100% cleaner when we were finished. The thought of them having to do that all over again doesn't appeal to me at all.

I hope it works out they can stay but at the time I remember everyone had to move no matter what their situation - seems to make more work for a lot of people but it is the housing people that do that so not much can be done. Hopefully things have changed.

:confused3 For those of you that do extend... how does this affect your college credits back home. My dd is going to try and get in for next fall... however she will probably get behind a credit or two by doing this. SO what happens when you stay for two semesters?? I mean I am thinking that my dd will really get behind if she stayed longer. I am sure she would love to though. Plus she is also in a sorority and I don't know what happens if you missed a year of that. Hmmmm

She can always take classes online, my roommate is taking 12 credits right now to stay on target with graduation. Her school might also offer credits, because the program counts as an internship. I'm in a sorority too, and I requested to be inactive for the semester.

They will have to move apartments. I had a similar situation with our new apartment being absolutely FILTHY when I extended. My roommate and I raised you know what at the offices until we convinced them to get the cleaning people to come to us first. Doesn't make much sense to not have them cleaned first. You move in right after they leave.
